the irony with the prom thing is the gr. 11 class organises the graduating class's prom, and the previous year, when the seniors were juniors, they'd organised the first racially mixed prom in more than twenty-some years.
(the proms were originally split because when the schools were desegregated there was ugly fights at every prom.)
