okay, just one small question: your religion says being gay is against god, right? perfectly understandable. the jewish religion says eating pork is against god, so they don't eat pork. they don't deny the right to anyone else to eat pork. in fact, it doesnt affect them in the slightest, so they move on.

if your religion says dont be gay, then dont be gay! but you dont expect me or anyone else who is not of your faith to follow the rules of it, do you? then why do you think the right should be denied to others to follow their own beleifs if it doesnt affect you in the slightest?

You hit the nail on the head, yannic. Even in the bible it reads that those who are Christian should not expect those who aren't to follow the rules of the faith, and that was freaking inspired by their GOD!!!! Therefore, those who are religious fantatics should butt out of the actual legal decision making.
Don't ask questions, just accept it.

I'm just going to throw this question out there:

Do you believe that a gay couple is just as suited to raise children as a heterosexual couple?

Why or why not?

Well, I definitely don't know if I can absolutely say YES......but I had an extended version. See, I dunno how it would go for a couple such as Melissa Etheridge & her girlfriend to just like (adopt) a child. I don't view anything wrong with it. If they did adopt a child, or get some hot stud like David Crosby to be the 3rd wheel on making a child for them I still don't see anything wrong with it.
My cousin, who I spoke of in an earlier post, raises her daughter who's now like 10 with her girlfriend and they all honestly have a fantastic relationship. Her daughter hasn't had any problems with it.........but perhaps thats because her father is still involved.
I don't have a problem with it.........but I guess I can't give a 110% answer.

Yes it does say something along those lines but i think your taking it out of context. That passage isnt really ment to be taken positively as far as my understanding goes.

Cheers.

are you fucking retarded?

polygamy is essentially slavery of woman, only in different terms. Its a horrific practice that does happen in modern North America that is looked down upon so much that the media won't even give notice to its existance.

As opposed to the millions of people that show up for the gay pride parade.

I don't care what your religion is, the fact that people want to deny other people of essential rights and freedoms is so ignorant that I can't put it into words. No one is making marrage any less sacred.

What I don't understand is how people can claim to be religious and do things like take birth control or whatever and not encorporate their religion into their lives as they should and then take it as a defence against something they dont like. This is by no means directed towards anyone here at all but the only thing I can see holding back gay marrage is religion. Which doesn't even make sense because in socity there is a blatent downfall of religion and religious practices so how is that an excuse? really?

What the fuck does religion have to do with this anyway?!

There is a law in Ottawa that say you cannot eat iced cream on Bank Street if its a Sunday. I don't think they consulted their spiritual leaders for that one. If people would get off their stubborn asses and take someone else point of view for a second out of their superficial day, maybe they would realize that your fucking with someones life because you still think that "God says so".

I'm sorry but that just doesn't cut it.

Oh really? Even if all members of the union agree to it? It's funny how its ok to look down on polygamy but not heterosexual unions.

No, I'm not "fucking retarded", are you? Do you know any polygamous families? That's what the media has stuffed down your fucking throat. Yes, they CAN turn into abusive relationships, that doesn't mean that they do. So do gay and man/woman relationships. No, I don't want to be polygamous, I couldn't do it.

Abnd Yannic, marriage is a religious term. I don't care if people are gay and want to be united and even get the government benefits, but that's not marriage, sorry.

Love ya ;)

don't be so quick to denounce polygamy.

in many parts of africa polygamy is a cultural tradition very much rooted in the necessities the familial structure had and still has to meet. having multiple women in the household to mother a large quanitity of children made, and in some cases, still makes a lot of sense. not only was household work distributed amongst the wives, but there were more women to guide the family and always someone to fall back on if one's biological mother died.

this tradition may not mesh well with modern ideas of a woman's place in society, but that doesn't make it wrong or "slavery" as you say. for many women polygamy is a viable aspect of their culture and a choice that they, as free women, should be able to make.

Wow ok, I'm tired of people claiming that religion shouldnt be an issue when it comes to decisions such as gay marriage. Why? Because these religions BELIEVE that it is wrong. Mabye what "God says" doesnt matter to you but it matters to a huge portion of the population and ignoring their beliefs and points of view is being just as stubborn and single minded as they are. You have to realize that in changing current law, the system be going againts the beliefs of millions of people. Are their views politically incorrect? Yes. But invalid? No.

We're not asking christians or religious groups to get gay people married in their church. I realize how that could be hurtful and a slap in the face to them. They just want legal status as a married couple. Why is it so wrong? I honestly don't see it. Please tell me why it's wrong for gay people to get married, and maybe i'll listen. But so far, i've only heard "it says it's wrong in the book i follow." That passage in the bible wasn't meant to be negative or positive, it's meant to be fact. Some don't believe in some of your religions, so why should those religions dictate how they live their lives? Even god realizes they that they shouldn't, why can't you?

when it comes down to it, the gay marriage issue is really just about big companies and insurance and money that the big hanchos don't want to give out.

marriage comes with a legal recognition that treats a couple differently. more people getting married = less money for the government and big insurance companies. morality, religion, civil rights - these are just cards the government is playing in order to protect the financial interests of the organizations that would stand to lose if all these new marriages were allowed. if it weren't for the money, bush wouldn't give a fuck.

and it's not like this is the first time we see bush acting in interest of big companies and the almighty dollar sign. the art of the business is that he's found a way to justify these actions that appeals to a good part of the american public, ensuring his popularity amongst the people as well as the businessmen. that seems to be his presidential talent.

i can't wait to vote democrat in the upcoming election.

To follow on a question I asked earlier, here is one reason why people are against it that has nothing to do with religion. I'm not advocating its reasoning and it will probably cause a whole separate debate, but here goes:

By allowing gay couples to wed, they are put on the same playing level as heterosexual married couples. Many groups believe that gay couples have no place raising children because a healthy family includes a mother and a father. (That is obviously a judgement call) God or no God, that is how we were built, it takes a man and a woman to have kids. So, in cases of adoption, married straight couples no longer would have an advantage over gay unions. This is to say, that a gay couple may win adoption battles over straight couples. That is one reason.

And also, to clarify, the amendment is not about denying gay people the right to wed. It is more about allowing people the ability to govern themselves. Whenever someone disobeys a democratic vote, it shows weakness in the system. The people of MA have chosen to disallow gay marriage and the courts turned that decision around, ultimately throwing out the will of the people. If things continue down that sort of the path, then the voice of the people will no longer be valid and we will merely be ran by judicial tyrants.

Oh I love this conspiracy theory. Care to explain how allowing LESS people on your insurance plan means you make MORE money? (Hint: in order for an insurance company to make money, they need people to buy it)
