I mean... michelle branch? Christina Aguilara? Finger Eleven's one Thing? 3DG's Everything About You? One thing is probably one of f11's worst songs to date. 3DG's song is so repetitive and uninspiring it's disgusting.
Thankfully Outkast and Matt Good did not go unnoticed. If their songs weren't on any of the lists i probably would have never returned to these boards because of the lack of good musical taste. But what about Jet and Switchfoot and Interpol and Mars Volta?
Sorry to be such a jerk, but i haven't had the best day/week.
well i couldnt agree more with three days grace but i mean your list isnt that great. Jet is just a Strokes rip off, Switchfoot had better songs then the one that kind of made them popular. Mars Volta are terribly over rated in my opinion.
to each their own...before you start knocking others remember there is someone there to criticize you as well

Ha ha ha! Someone else got to be the asshole of the thread!
And yeah, with that, I would like to say the "emo" bands are really popular on here because they have magnificent song writing. Think about it. All the really popular stuff is God awful, but as bad as they may be, bands like Dashboard Confessional are keeping the art of writing magnificent lyrics alive. And the thing is, their lyrics pale in comparison to some of the other "emo" acts out there.
I mean, take Alkaline Trio's song "We've Had Enough" into consideration. If you ignore the chorus, the song is magnificently written. There's so much to it. And then there's Bright Eyes, which is just Dylan-esque. Not to mention The Postal Service writes some intensely emotional lyrics, doesn't whine with them, and makes every word sound more beautiful than the last.
Then look at the older bands. There's bands like Jawbreaker. They're not as poetic as The Postal Service, but their stories just hit you. They don't use pretentious words because they don't have to. Their songs as a whole just hit you. Go ahead.
Here's some songs you should check out. Just read the lyrics. They're much better than "I am beautiful no matter what they say" or something like that.
Alkaline Trio - We've Had Enough
The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
Bright Eyes - just pick a song of theirs. Seriously.
Jawbreaker - Kissed The Bottle
Jawbreaker - Jinx Removing
Alkaline Trio - Bleeder
Alkaline Trio - Radio
These are just four bands. There's stuff out there that I haven't even heard yet that I know is better than these bands lyrically and maybe even musically. Get past the black rimmed trendyfucks, and the really whiney people like the All-American Rejects, and you're going to find an amazing scene that you won't bother to look into because you heard Dashboard Confessional too many times.
That's just my recommendation. If not, you can keep listening to whatever, and you'll miss out on good music.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

ya "one thing" is a pretty good song.
As well, I'm not sure if What if it all means something by Chantal was released as an official single but it was given airplay on local stations this summer.

that song is old. it's from a couple of years ago. not from 2003.

Don't feel embarrassed for songs that you think should be on the top. Does the objectiveness of 98.484874373% of the people in here really matter? I personally don't care - hense, my new profile/location.
Matchbox Twenty - Brlght Lights
Andre 3000 (Outkast) - Hey Ya
Big Boi (OutKast) - The Way You Move
Coldplay - The Scientist
REM - Bad Day
R Kelly - Thoia Thoing, Ignition (Remix)

I'm assuming you meant for me to give that "type of music which isn't a real type of music (a chance)????
I'll get right on that......I gave it chance by listening to DC, no thanks.

haha.. thats a really funny statement you just made, and even better, when i look at your sig. i mean you are just being ignorant, and afraid of giving things a chance... it takes time to actually get into music and really explore good quality music...or you can just take the crap that the radio throws out at you.. if you ever really gave other music a chance you might realize you like, but i think you'll give one or two songs then just turn it off

When we are talking about top songs of the year... i don't think it should come down to oppinion. I think it should be given to the songs that were more breakthrough than a song with one thing that was good. Which is why i chose what i did. I know i sounded mean, and i'm sorry. I was having a pretty bad day.
But that is how i felt about what should be given the award of top songs of the year. I mean outkast's song got people who enjoy punk, rock, metal, rap, hip hop, and pop to all like one song. That is pretty incredible if you think about it. The Jet song was simply something new an unexplored. Someone said that they are copying the Strokes... not at all IMO. the Mars Volta and Interpol songs, to me, shows that true intelligent songs have a chance to get a good amount of airtime. Switchfoot song is probably the newest teenage anthem. 95% of the people i know love that song. It's almost like the anthem of the year. The Matthew Good song goes on my list because it proves a lot. it proves Matt's incredible talent. he didn't stumble or fall at all. The song was also nicely accompanied with my choice for video of the year. I know it doesn't have anything to do with the song, but just thought i'd mention it.

Baby Thief, look at the first post on this thread

Therefore, people came on here to list their favourite songs of the year. To be honest, I would rather list my favourite songs rather than songs that were deemed by radio stations and tv channels the songs of the years. I think you should be able to list your favourites of the year, and therefore give your opinion.

For Me It'd Be::
1. Outkast- Hey Ya
2. Sarah Mclaughlin- Fallen
3. MM- mObscene
4. Coldplay- God put a smile upon your face
5. Christina Aguleira- Beautiful **
6. Coldplay- Clocks
7. Billy Talent- Try Honesty
***********I CANT THINK OF ANYMORE! I LISTEN TO OLD STUFF MORE*********
** I put Christina, because even though its her etc etc, the song has a VERY good message, and the video is absolutely fantastic, not for her, but for the messages, and seriously, isnt that what its about?
