I want a poppy, but I can't find anybody selling them for some reason...

"if the nuremberg trials were applied to us foreign policy, every us president since 1945 would have been hanged." noam chomsky.
...and this is me hanging on / i'd burn our initials in the sun if it would shine / anxiety chokes me like razor wire / if hate's in your heart man, you'll take what you're given / wake up / i'm not the only one / it's never goodbye / go ahead and play dead / if everyone's a casualty, then take your time, there ain't no trouble / these wounds they will not heal / ambition can be a tricky thing / what the hell do i know about rape anyway? / this is not what i hoped for / ain't it so weird how it makes you a weapon / who will be there to tell me how stupid i am? / those living for death will die by their own hand / and it's me that I am spying on / pick up the pieces and live with the stars / hurry up and wait / things have never been so swell / they're always the ones who slowly drift / be great / ...and this is my world.

oi, man. in canadian studies we had a whole lecture about the poppy and its significance and how wearing a canadian poppy for rememberance day doesn't necessarily symbolize your support for the military and for war but rather your support for peace and appreciation for what was done in the past... ack... i could write an essay. actually i'll probably have to at some point.
but anyway, this being my very first rememberance day in canada, i can't answer, as i haven't decided whether to get one yet.

Lick a finger: feel the now.
i'be noticed something over the last little bit and i'd like you guys to correct me if i'm wrong.
In America you have Vetrens Day, which is paying respect to your current and deceaced vetrens. And basically being proud of what they did for your country.
Here in Canada we have Remembrence Day it also is for respecting our military men and women and the sacrifices they made for our country, but a HUGE part of it is based on talking about the atrocities of war, and the negative effects. I can't quite remember the phrase that's used (
) but it's something along the lines of how the world should never forget the horrors of war lest we make the same mistakes again. Or something like that in a much more poetic style. At many of the ceremonies i've attended there's also time spent remembering the horror's the Japanese lived through in Hirroshima.
It seems to symbolize where Candadian ideology and American's differ. While both are respectful one is more pride and one is more remembrence. Perhaps it is because of how many more losses Canada had in each war, perhaps it is just a way of thinking.

I seriously couldnt find one this year. Our school is huge in the whole drama thing, so every second year we have a big show to commerate rememberance day...it was pretty good this year, less of a "this-is-why-you-should-feel-bad" kind of thing, and more an abstract on the effects of war.
But serioulsy, I am never, EVER watching a play with a bunch of grade 9s again, I swear. (I was in an 11 class when the 10s went, and a 10 class when the 11s went) They were just fucking dumbasses. Whenever someone died, or something else emotional happened, they'd say some stupid comment really loud. At the end, when the lights went out and there was this moment to just reflect on what we had just saw, some kid yelled "PENIS" I wanted to reach over and punch him. I dont understand why some teenagers have the need to never take the suffering of others seriously.
hey, you know what i just realized? Our school didnt have an assembly or 2 mins of silence today. I think thats the first time its ever happened to me...
And Sean, its "Lest we forget" It's my MSN name right now.

I see not wearing a poppy somewhat disrespectful, unless you couldnt get one.
It's not about having an opinion on war or anything its respecting and acknowledging the people that worked and died to get where we are now.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
