Should OLP go RAW?

That could be true, but OLP has decent songs for the album. St Anger has noise.

I find it really hard to even begin to judge OLP's new album and direction in regards to Metallica. They are so completely different, with different styles. Something live off the floor from Metallica is obviously going to sound completely different than something OLP is going to do. If BBTS is any indication I think the new album might turn out pretty damn good. :)

I don't exactly know what you mean by RAW, but I thought Naveed had a raw sound to it. So if they go back to that way, then yeah by all means go raw.

If you mena by *Happiness*-which I thought sounded too perfect then no. I do like *Happiness* though. I just feel it is perfect to the point of no mistakes. I like records that aren't perfected by Tools and Overdubbing. WHY you might ask? When I see a band live I am always disappointed if the song doesn't sound as good live or better live. I feel over dubs does that.

That is my opinion.

That is why I liked Happiness so much. Everything just sounded so crisp and perfect I fell in love with each song. If I could play more than the first 5 songs on the cd, I would still fall in love with it each time I listen, but it won't play.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I think watching them strive for perfection at shows is really cool. Sure, it's damn near impossible, but it's part of them growing as a band.

And I would cry if my Happiness woudln't play

See, SM has a shitload of extra layers and stuff, and it just adds to the depth of it.

That's definitely a matter of opinion. St. Anger definitely has some decent songs on it... they just unfortunately go entirely too long. Like, "Frantic" is awesome, but too long. "Invisible Kid" is really good, but even longer. Ugh, just thinking about how long they dragged that one on hurts my head. But, yeah, the length of the tracks helped kill the album. The main thing that killed it was the production, though. It's just painful to listen to.

*crosses fingers that OLP's next album sounds nothing like St. Anger production-wise*... *tries to forget that St. Anger was used as an example in interviews with OLP*... *can't forget*... *cries*

not to mention they have the same PRODUCER!!!

i think Jag tanna of ime said it best "...how can we aspire to dumb band? How can we do that? it's all backwards, that type of bussiness thinking is insulting to our fans, it's like saying "ok, your dumb and you won't understand this music, so we'll dumb it down for you" i don't think our fans are like that. Why would we do that to ourselves or them?"

The main problem with St Anger was the new drumset. There's one drum in there that sounds like he's banging on a metal garbage can lid. That's the most annoying sound on the album. It's really hard to listen to.

I hope Jer doesn't decide to use the same set. If he does, this next album might not even be bearable.

meh he was enough of a pushover to let people tell him to play like a drum machine, if you have the skills use them for christs sake, Chris of IME technicaly isn't better then Jer but if you compare cd's you wouldn't think so

But all OLP's songs off Happiness and SM still sound much better live - they're perfect on the albums, but that doesn't stop them sounding amazing live too. I never liked Are You Sad? until I heard it live and now it's my joint favourite live song! And I find I can't listen to any of the studio albums for a good few weeks after I've seen OLP live because they just seem kind of flat in comparison to the live shows.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

lol, after my first OLP concert I had the same feeling. It was the first time in a long time where I didn't feel like listening to an OLP album for atleast a week. I was getting pretty scared that I had grown out of OLP.

I can't listen to SM on studio. I saw them play live the night after SM was released(in canada)I am use to the songs live. That is why I listen to bootlegs of the shows(off that tour) then the Studio record. Happiness is about the same. There are some songs that sound amazing live, others about the same. I have to agree with you on Are You Sad. I didn't care too much for that song first time I heard it. If you guys remember about 2-3 weeks before SM was released they had the listening party on line for 2 days I believe. That was the one song I didn't care for. it grew on me as alive song. Now I love it.

Since we are talking live here. This is my own opinion with all the CD's.
Naveed-most songs sound better live.
Clumsy-a few sound better live, but about the same as CD.
Happiness- the same as Clumsy
SM-live all the way. Those songs just sounded so much better live. Wasn't that the CD the one they made to perform live or something like that.
Gravity-A few songs sound better live, but some sound the same and as much as I love Raine and SOT. I don't think I have yet to see a good version of that song live. SORRY TO OLP, but for some reason it seems it is better on CD then in concert. that is my opinion.

TO ALL.
I am curious. Out of all the OLP CD's, which one do you think is better live then on CD? My vote is Naveed and SM.
