This is why church and state should be separate.

Serious discussion area.

true it might be offensive to people around you if you didn't, but punishment seems a bit extreme

The pledge of allegiance is retarded and should be abolished. I don't pledge allegiance to anything other than myself. I sure as fuck don't pledge my allegiance to the symbol of a country I don't trust and largely disagree with the actions of.

I think I have to agree with Corey on this one.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

i suppose i can see it your way, it would be disrespectful to sit, but if they are going to begin punishment for such acts they should begin punishment for all disrespectful acts, which inturn would lead to things such as the "Holy Facism Batman!" thread

Well, if the person refuses to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, why do they live in this country? Why don't the people like Aerin move out of America and try to find a country that doesn't have one? I bet she'd have fun living in an extremely poor African country where she'd have to be completely self-reliant, and probably fail miserably, than living here and having to stand during a thrity second long speech.

forcing students to pledge alliegance to the flag is incredibly nationalist and very hitleresque. facism is based on the premise that the state is more important then the individual.

the pledge of alliegance has always bothered me for this reason.

Yes, all you have to do is stand up during it. I mean, you don't have to say it, and you don't have to believe it, but just stand up. It solves so many pointless problems. If you want to make a statement about it, then don't face the flag or something, but odds are you have no reason to turn from the flag, because all of us Americans on this message board have easy fucking lives. Before you go ahead and deny how easy your lives are, look at what you're on. You're using a computer, sitting at a desk, in a nice house. People would kill for these kinds of luxuries.

I win.

So we should be complacent and sit back while our administration takes the world to hell? I don't think so.

Oh my God, you're telling me that STANDING UP means the world is going to hell? Going to war unjustly could end the world, that's understandable. Having an incompitent president could do the same thing. Not reciting a speech with the rest of your class in grade school does not end the world. It just gives people with no voice a reason to bitch just so they feel important.

take in god out if people find it offensive that christians founded this country. of course they did establish this country for religious freedom, however...the flag.......you leave that mother where it is, and outlaw flagburning.

Whoooooaaa, there. Christians did NOT found this country. Jefferson was an atheist. Most of the others were deists. People find taking god out of the pledge offensive because they WANT America to be a "Christian nation", whatever that means, when it is clearly not, nor has it ever been.

of corse it was. Most people who founded this country were WASP. White Anglo Saxon Protestants. look at today's politicians, the majority are still WASPs and it's this basis that makes a base for their christian views. My solution, elect catholics.

Have you heard that some baptist organization is sending care packages over to Iraq and inside is a little scripture from the bible? :wtf: HOW FUCKING STUPID IS THAT?! your only going to piss people off over there and many are going to make the assumption that the U.S. is there to make christians out of these people by force. i wish people would stop doing this type of shit.

some christians follow to blindly for my liking, i hate all fanatics that are blinded by there own faith, blind faith is the cause of ignorance, hate, and lack of tolerance, which are all greater evils to me then worshiping at the wrong church

you know what i find interesting, you don't hear about Buddhist fanatics running around kidnapping people, or murdering people. i think thats cool. i'm not well educated on buddhism but i'm about to write a report on it, and i think this religion is really interesting.

Find me some Christians that kill in the name of God. The Crusades ended a long time ago. Try again buddy.

every religion has a bloody past. Even Buddhist slaughtered Hindu faithful. Catholics and protestants constantly fight in Europe. religion these days just looks like a bad idea.
