I'm not trying to be rude or offensive or anything, I seriously want to know .. but what exactly did this guy DO other than be on a children's tv show?

I know that he was some sort of minister, but that's all I know, I don't know too much about the guy.

but you just said he deserves TONS of respect for all that he did? what did he do?

He was one of the few people on television that gave kids someone to look up to, who was an honest and genuinely good person. I definitely think that deserves at least some respect.

The Polka Dot Door was good too .. with the mouse and Polkaroo .. there were so many good shows for kids when I was little compared to now. At least Sesame Street is still around.

Yeah I totally agree, there's almost nothing now. Under The Umbrella Tree, Sharon Lois And Bram, Fred Penner's Place ...

Now kids are stuck with a giant purple dinosaur and 4 scary look teletubbies ... I mean it's just not the same. We used to have Smurfs, and My Little Ponies, and The Sun Tots, and Gummi Bears!!

He's been doing the show since the 1960's, he also was an ordained Presbyterian minister, who has been serving the community around Pittsburgh for over 30 years. He did tons of charity stuff, like Make a Wish. He lived modestly but happily off of whatever paycheck he could get from Public Broadcast Television, which I guess isn't a lot because they depend on viewers like us, and if you ever watched one of their pledge drives, you'll know that not a lot of people are watching. PBS will have an entire pledge drive with the goal of 15 new members...it's the most boring thing you'll ever watch. He also got the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest honor that a civillian can get.
