She just needs some time and some tuning. I use to like Vertical Horizon a couple of years ago when pop music was a bit more appealing. "You're a God" and "Best I Ever Had" were good songs to me......they still are okay in my books......but OLP really won me over. It took longer, but they are more challenging, more rewarding. Anyways Verizon, you keep listening to whatever you like. Though saying that Clumsy "sucks" isn't the best way of saying you don't like it.

I didn't say pop in a bad way.........but they are kind of poppy (in reference to Vertical Horizon) If that makes me the bad guy, so be it.

I think their are two divisions to OLP in terms of style. Clumsy and Naveed fit together while Spiritual Machines and Happiness are a separate chunk that marks two different dynasties. This is just how I view it. Happiness and Spiritual Machines had a lot of kick ass songs like In Repair, Is Anybody Home?, Thief, Life, Right behind You, Blister, All My Friends, If You Believe............and the point being that the band's phases tend to lead people to music they like. I didn't like Clumsy and Naveed that much until well after Happiness and Spiritual Machines had throughly dominated my CD player for a few months. Then I came to appreciate them too....now I get it on with OLP all night.........in every position.....because I love all their styles, its pure Geisha baby!!

See, this is what people were worried about when Gravity first came out. People who weren't into OLP before will hear Gravity as a radio-friendly pop rock CD, and buy it. They will, of course, like it. Then they'll listen to the four older CDs, and find that they aren't what they expected, and they won't like them.

The poor uneducated fools...

I'm wasting my time.....and ohhh I live a lie ohh.....when listening to Default. I don't hate them......they are actually an okay band, but really need to write and perform in a way that doesn't stack them up against their clones.....maybe if they played banjo and xylophone........hmmmmm, I smell a winner. :uh:

i introduced OLP to one of my friends, and he was moderatly into them up untill the Winnipeg Concert, he got blown away, and was amazed at the energy and Raines performance, now he's a huge fan, and blairs olp while singing along, he even knows the hard lyrics, and he surprised the shit outa me when out of no where he quoted Happiness and the Fish. I was never really going to introduce him to most of Happiness cause it's kinda weird for him i thought, turns out he downloaded it and loves it  it's my biggest and only success story :D

oh in other news........

OLP need to do a studio version of the slow julia that song is truly something great but they need to put a bit more time into it, you can see it's greatness shining through the unpreparedness of the live version

i think it was live.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Yeah, a live version of Julia was released to the PPU a few years ago.

Fave OLP songs of the moment:
Naveed
Supersatellite
Denied
Julia
Automatic Flowers
Car Crash
Blister
Bring Back the Sun

It amazes me how many people here have so many favourites off Gravity. I enjoy the album, but it definitely doesn't have the staying power (in my opinion) that OLP's previous releases did. Naveed is one of the greatest albums ever. Period.

Naveed and Clumsy are just plainly deeper albums. gravity is easy to listen to and the messages are vvery clear. Its solid, but musically and lyrically not as challenging as their first two releases.

The banjo rocks Emily!! I'm surprised more rock bands don't let it rip......
