a third of my music collection is showtunes, a third is classical, and the final third is mostly Canadian rock. And I can't add a modifier to the word rock.

I put "modern rock", although, I hate nu metal. Ugh. That should be deleted from that selection, cos modern rock is definitely not the same thing as nu metal.
And, why is just plain old "rock" not a choice? Cos I would've put that. I don't care if it's new, old, whatever. If it's rock, I'll probably like it.
Also, although I personally don't like it, you should probably add "rap", "r&b", and "hip hop"... I mean, we *are* OLP fans... and with Jer in the band...
Also add "pop".

Hey, I know this might be a stupid question, and I know there is a difference.. but what is the major difference between indie and experimental? I just always thought experimental was even more "out there", but they both do the job of sounding different. Is this true?

well the only one i don't agree with is putting rap hip hop and pop in the same category cause i like some pop(mostly brit pop) but can't stand rap or hip hop

Yeah, well instead of just putting an "other" category, I thought I'd combine them.. it doesn't matter if you don't like all of them.

Independent musicians are merely, well, independent. Example would be Bright Eyes. Experimental means the band would experiment with different sounds, for instance, Sigur Ros and Godspeed you Black Emperor. Radiohead can be considered experimental as well. You CAN be indie and experimental at the same time, but these two genres are not synonymous.

BTW, my count of people who were 'punk' this year and not last year is up to 13. That's a lot, considering I'm not counting seniors and juniors and I really don't know all the sophomores.

You see, there's always one person in a clique that goes 'punk'. Then all of their friends say "Hmm, she's too cool for me! Mummy!! Buy me a belt with spikes on it! And a wristband with those neato metal stars! Oh oh, and some chucks!" and then TAfuckingDA, they're punk.
Oh, I liked. I just remembered 2 more. So, like, 15 people.

Yes, I love how a funny belt, bracelet with spikes, and a Good Charlotte shirt makes you fit in with all those punk music fans.
Funny story. My dad saw my Christmas list today and he saw the cds I asked for. I got a 20 minute long conversation on why I shouldn't listen to the Sex Pistols. Highlights are that "Sid Vicious is a murderer, so you shouldn't listen to them" "They used to do drugs" and "You're not a political activist and I don't want you to be." Thanks dad, that really impacted me.
