one thing i noticed, they have a good guitarist, actually really good, but he likes a certain part of his fret board, and likes to use certain chords alot

i couldn't agree more completely. that's one of the major reasons why i prefer Leitmotif, the vocals sound a lot better and there are less of them, more instrumental stuff.
actually i think they've been having problems since this new style came about. this kid i know went to one of their shows in NYC recently and supposedly after the first or second song the bass player got really pissed and just walked off stage. the band tried to go on without him but couldn't, so they had to cut the whole set short.
i hate when people change a good thing.
