Axtech wrote:I don't think that's really that big of a deal, to be honest. I mean, it's not like you're going to think "Oh no, my phone's broken .... AND MY MP3 PLAYER! What a horrible day, losing two things at once!" People are used to thinking of them as two things now, but when you have that ONE product that does both, you're more apt to think "Oh no, my iPhone's broken. What a horrible day, I'll have to get it fixed."

You're probably right.

And those thoughts would probably be followed by these thoughts:

"I'll have go to to the Apple store and see if my warranty covers this. I wonder what the Apple store's hours are. I'd better call them and ch -- FUCK!"

Also, if you're roadtripping or something, you have to be careful not to listen to too much music and use up the battery, because if you do and then you get a flat tire or have some sort of emergency, your phone is dead. Even though you haven't talked to anybody on it yet!

If you're someone who always carries your phone and always carries your ipod with you, then I see how there could be some benefits (though the examples I just gave would still be problems). But it seems to me like iPods, for most people, are a take-with-you-sometimes item, while phones are a take-with-you-always item.

im a take my ipod every where whenever i leave kinda guy
well
i used to be till i got mugged in jax and lost my md and im currently apprehensive about taking my ipod anywhere.. however.. as mentioned before.. i used to take my md out even if i was driving to the store 5 mins away so i could listen to it lol.. thats just me..

all electronic devices have breakdowns lol
and as far as the "using it in a car" thing goes.. im sure there'll be a car charger and all that, sure it'll cost an extra 20-30 bucks but, even for a regular ipod its worth it
go fuck yourself.

I take my ipod with me everywhere, but it's so small that it really doesn't make me want to say, "geez, I can't handle carry these two things at once." Then again, I'm a girl and I use a purse.

The car was just the first example I thought of, but there are probably lots of other situations where one might need a phone for an emergency when there isn't somewhere nearby to plug an iPhone in at. ;)

article on wired about this:
http://www.wired.com/news/columns/0,724 ... =rss.index

a snipet:
The same way the Mac's mouse and iPod's scroll wheel changed computers and music players, the iPhone's finger-powered touch screen will change smartphones.

Jobs' hugely entertaining hyperbole corresponded to the iPhone he showed off. As he said, the iPhone seems to work "like magic." Watching Jobs resize photos with his fingers and reorient web pages by flipping the phone on its side really was like watching magic at work.

In the press section, reporters actually gasped in awe a couple of times, or laughed at the delightful feats of technology Jobs was showing off. I've rarely seen this. Tech reporters have usually seen it all before. Not this time.

The iPhone really does leap over the competition. It's not just a nifty iPod or a nice phone -- it's an entirely new blend of media and communications device.

See, I dont really like the touch screen concept. I think its sort of one of those things thats great in theory, and an awesome party trick, but is totally overrated in regular use. Ever since I've had this click wheel crap on my ipod, I've been missing having just regular buttons. They are a lot more practical and useful for music on the move. With just having buttons you are able to change what pretty quickly, I found. Once you know the different controls you can just press what you want your mp3 player to do without even taking it out of your pocket. The ipod kind of needs you to look at its screen to change things, and when I try to just change the song or volume or whatever in my pocket, its very likely to screw up. Not the greatest. Espically when you consider that the entire point of portable music is to use it on the move. Same thing with when you are working out or something. It seems unnecessary to have to use that click wheel to change the song if you are focused on something else at the time.

For my use this iphone isnt very good. The battery life on it suck from what i have seen, its to big IMO, and I dont need the music function. I would much rather have a SE K790 since the battery is awsome, its small and light, has a 3.2mp camera with xenon flash when my normal camera isnt handy, and it looks sleek. I am not even an ipod owner nor does it interest me. I listen to music in 2 places these days, on the computer, and in my car. While you may say an ipod is great in the car, I dont agree. I would have to buy an ipod and icelink cables to connect it to my car and the total cost for that is over $600. For $200 I can get a "phatbox" which replaces my stock cd changer in the trunk with its removable cartridge based hard drive. Its cheaper and does not clutter up the inside of the car.

the phone sucks a lot. I was watching something on tv about it, no expandable memory, not able to download mp3s, and a few other things I'm sure have been mentioned... It's garbage.

Wouldn't a touch-screen thing get really dirty and gross from the oil in your fingers?

And would it still work with gloves on? My iPod click wheel doesn't work when I have gloves on.

What kind of gloves are we talking about here? I can control my nano's volume through my pants when it is in my pocket.
