to be honest I think it is a little far fetched that our government will turn on us, but I would hope that Nikki and co could maybe have a bit of respect that politics is more than just what's in the news.

I think that it's fair to say that democracies are expanding in size, but its power seems to be diminishing. If you compare today to governments in the 60s and 70s, governments have less control over the world as a whole. Corporations have more power than nations I would argue. If corporations had their own standing armies (you could argue they already do via the government's army regarding foreign interests) then I think there would be more cause for concern. Corporations run the show, and a government won't turn on its people at the cost of its economy.

I mean you read books like 1984 and other futuristic novels and all of them seem to have forgotten about the role of economics in the system. I think it's far too powerful to ignore, and any decision a government makes has economic reasoning.

I'll start showing him respect when he does the same for the rest of us. :happytears:

Until then... I wear my tinfoil hat with pride!!!

hahaha, I know. I'm sure Chris knows we're kidding. He's a kidding kind of guy, after all.

dude, GOOD post. i totally agree about the corporations bit, but i believe they have this power because of a combination of political and economic power, and obviously the political power begins and ends with the state.

and i will admit that it seems unlikely that the canadian government will ever become overtly violent against it's citizens. they are way more concerned with stealing our money.

the american one however...

kathy14 i don't even know who you are so i'm not sure what i could've done to piss you off so much, but please fill me in and i'd love to sort it out with you.

as far as it goes for you nikki, well, don't count on me breaking you out of any concentration camps during the revolution, y'know what i mean?

Why do you assume that everyone has to be pissed off at you to find what you say offensive or disagree with you?

i don't. lots of people disagree with me that aren't mad at me. but you guys are.

We weren't until you started spewing offensive crap on the board.

You do it to yourself, you do, and that's what really hurts... is that you do it to yourself, just you and no one else... you do it to yourself... you do it to yourself......

I don't know you at all, but you lost me when you thought it was okay to joke about slapping around a girlfriend. I work with women in domestic violence shelters every week. What you said was not funny... it came across as immature, inconsiderate, ignorant... I could go on. And apparently the rest of us are wimps because we don't find you funny. Get over yourself.

oh give me a fucking break. the last time i posted here, YOU edited several of my posts. you deleted my original comments and replaced them with a bunch of insulting bullshit that i presumably said about myself. GUT-LESS. you are not one to talk to me about offending anybody.

kathy - well i'm sorry if i touched a nerve. fact is, i sleep with a lot of girls who are particularily turned on by the rough stuff, and in fact i am at present. THAT was the situation i was making light of, not the very real strife of domestic violence victims.

however do i need to point out the irony in you getting your back up over me making a joke about hitting women, when in this very thread you made light of the deaths of over 190 million innocent people?

Funny how you assume that was me. It wasn't, by the way. I guess this is why Robbo just asked me about that occurrence a little while ago.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I don't do things like that. If I don't like you, I'll tell you straight to your face and won't skirt around it at all.

Hey, guess what? I don't like you. You're an arrogant, ignorant jerkoff. How's that for gutless?

actually i'm not ignorant, i'm extremely well read and will happily beat you from pillar to post on absolutely ANY topic you'd like to debate.

i'll give you arrogant, though, but hey! nobody's perfect.

and with the posts thing - i think you are both lying to me. i mean christ, editing my posts in the first place was chickenshit as all hell, so why the FUCK would i expect you to do something like own up to it?

Actually, it wasn't either of us. It was another administrator. Unlike some people, I have respect for the privacy of others and I'm letting him talk to you himself rather than discussing his actions behind his back.

hahahahahah amazing that you guys happily admit that you allow the editing of my posts to include insults directed at me, and that you do not now or ever have had any intention of doing anything like that.

PATHETIC. and you have the nerve to tell me that i should tone it down. gutless hypocrties, the lot of you.

the stop responding when you've been run out of arguments is a GREAT way to show conviction in your belief.

this is two times now we've had this discussion, and both times you retreated. somebody's confidence appears to be wavering... why is that?

You can keep thinking that (as I'm sure you will). But it wasn't me.

Actually, further evidence that it wasn't me is that I believe the edits contained many swear words, and I don't use swear words.

But, I don't really know why I'm even defending myself against your allegations when... honestly, I don't care if you think I did that to you. I will admit, though... it was freaking hilarious.

Speaking of which, you never did tell me in your high-and-mighty wisdom how you justify knowingly offending the members of this board.

umm... I can't waste time refreshing this thread (and the other ones) until you respond so that I can continue arguing. I know you enjoy arguing and hate to wait for a response, but some of us have lives.

actually i must have errantly deleted a line of text there, that last 2 bits were with respect to our discussion via PMs, both of which you made an early exit from without resolving anything.

trying to hide behind the fact that you are "leaving it up to the piece of shit coward motherfucker" does not change the fact that i was whipping you from pillar to post over a NUMBER of different issues in those same PMs. remember? i was showing you the egregious error of your ways both in how you view me in general and more recently, you locking that thread.

as i recall i had just finished basically leaving you with nothing left to say other than " you're right, i was wrong" when you stopped responding.

as i said, that was a bit of a type for which i apologize. that post was directed at rob and rob alone.
