that's sad. if these mothers are saying what bad music is and how it corrupts kids by looking at their own kids' music choices, they should maybe look at their own parenting skills first

my mom constantly trys to throw out my music. it just makes me resent her, and feel like she doesn't understand me/trust my judgement. the fastest way to throw a kid onto the wrong track is to criticize his/her choice in music and restrict it. it's one thing to disagree over it...generation gap and all...but another thing to actively try and eliminate it and blame it for the kid's problems. That creates a whole slew of problems for the kid.

AnnieDreams wrote:In.. umm... a time era. (medieval? I don't remember) a brilliant violin composer was arrested for using too many tri-tones in his music. It was thought it was a sign of the devil.

they did that a lot in the middle ages. dissonance was considered music of the devil, and it wasn't allowed in public areas, where you'd get lynched or something if you hummed something out of tune. dissonance in chamber or religious music was blasphemous.

my source is my old music teacher who retired years ago, so don't quote me.

Where is this list of bands? I can't find it.

But wow, this is almost like someones presentation about violence in the media. The girl was trying to show that violence was in rock music as well...so she compared two songs...marylon manson-the death song and some rap song...i think it was called "shotta" or whatever. Anyway she clearly just googled the word "death" and decided to use it as promoting violence. It certainly did not compare at all to the rap songs lyrics which were, "get out glocks now gonna blow your face off cause we real coke smugglas".

there appears to be some controversy with this organization and their website (s)

"Everything indicates that, originally, "Mothers Against Noise" (as represented by www.mothersagainstnoise.us) was a marketing hoax to build hype for a Big Record Company "alternative" release.

As usual, it would seem that the public is taken for idiots who can be royally fucked on a regular. Feel free to gobble all the mindless hype you were fed at www.mothersagainstnoise.us. Or feel free to send them a big "fuck you".

Nowadays, www.mothersagainstnoise.us is registered under a false name, a false address in Washington and a Nextel (cellphone operator) phone number in Jersey. Draw your own conclusions. "

http://www.mothersagainstnoise.us/FAQ.html

http://www.mothersagainstnoise.org/ -> this website has just put out an online compilation of 'noise', and MAN.us claims this site is now run for promotion of techno and rap. The info I originally read on this website is now gone.

:wtf: So, this doesn't add up and I don't have the energy to look into it further because I have too much blood in my caffeine-stream... going to get a coffee.
