With Napoleon Dynamite, the movie is about High School, specificially Napopleon, a loner. With a look at his life, both at school and his family life. The Sub plot for this movie is really just character driven. It's the people around him. His uncle's past, his older brother and his internet girlfriend etc... It's just a movie about small town high school life. No major plot to follow.

Then don't watch it like it's a movie. Imagine you're watching a documentary based on small town high school and it's following around this loner kid, Napoleon Dynamite. It's a satirical look at different types of people and high school in small town America. Sure there are stereotypes thrown in there, but to a degree you just know that every one of the characters could easily be exactly like a real person out there.

I hated this movie. I was so bored by it. I got the jokes but they were just so unfunny

Maybe it's my fault. My friends just sort of dragged me into the theater without giving me any sort of information about the movie, beyond me seeing the poster on our way in.

EDIT: Okay, I'll admit I smiled a bit at some of the internet girlfriend stuff. But that's all.

I think the movie is completely and totally dumb, but I also find it hilarious. I'm not sure why. I actually think to myself while I'm watching it, "this is so stupid - why is it funny?" but for some reason it just is...I dunno...

No, not so much...maybe because I like random spontaneous humor, a la Monty Python or Strong Bad. Not that I'm comparing ND to the two of them, it's just a somewhat similar sense of randomness...

i don't know...i only find myself laughing at it because it's so out of the ordinary. a kind of cognitive dissonance--i think that's how it's supposed to work on you.

I don't think it's as funny as everyone made it out to be. It's all about who you're with and how they react. I do like it though, I'm not sure how you could think it's not funny AT ALL. I heard they are making a sequel at my school...but I don't know if that is true or not.
