Wow. Am I glad I've already graduated. Apparently new rules have been implemented and the High School graduation reqs changed. Now every student has to do a PE class, a Fine Arts class and the kicker, 40 hours of volunteer work each year. What the crap does volunteer work have to do with graduating high school? Man, they are attempting to get these well-rounded kids that are just robots. Some kids have a hard enough time to get through school but nowadays its rare that people will drop out or fail out. They always go back and the teachers and school gets involved. Why do these people also need to volunteer for 40 hours as well? I know its not a lot of time or anything it just seems incredibly unnecessary.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

according to the speech they gave us at the beginning of the year about the importance of community service hours, the focus is to build students strong in more than just scholarship, but citizenship and leadership as well. doing a lot of comm serv is supposed to help that. also something about it being a good habit to serve the people of your community and do good deeds and bring peace and joy and butterflies. ha.
pfft.
at the beginning of last year, they told us who were fortunate enough not to be involved in the new grad requirements NOT to make fun of those who are.

i had to do that to graduate. except it was 40 hours of community service across 4 years, so 10 hours every year.

so, can anyone suggest a "bird" course that most universities would offer?

yeah the 40 hours thing was in place long before i even entered high school, it was 50 for the people who went through OAC (keeping it at 10 hours a year)
now, think about it... ten hours a YEAR? you can EASILY do ten hours in a WEEKEND.
P.S. For IB I had to do 250 hours over two years. Nyah.

well, i went to a catholic high school so from grade 9-12, i had to take religion and part of my mark each year consisted of the completion of 10 hours of community service. religion was not compulsory in oac, so i didn't have to do community service for my last year. the public schools in my area didn't have to do community service. they had to start doing 10 hours of community service each year when they made the new curriculum and took out oac.
