I do think it's gross how much MJ gets from the media. But EVERYTHING he does gets media attention, so what's new? At least this time it was embarassing for him.

But I just wanted to throw in there that there's a big difference between not guilty and not proven. I think it's in Scotland that there are these 2 different verdicts and if you're not guilty it means you're not guilty and if you're not proven that means there wasn't enuogh evidence to decide either guilty or not guilty. From the sounds of things, this was really a not proven verdict rather than a not guilty one. But at least it's over and people can hopefully forget about it and concentrate on more important things.
Yeah, he wasn't proven to be innocent at all in this case. It was a total lack of evidance and there was no real way to convict him. Just look at this quote.
Two members of the jury that acquitted Michael Jackson of child abuse charges yesterday said afterwards that they suspect the star probably is a child molester.
But they said that they had agreed with their fellow jurors that the evidence presented against Jackson in his 14-week trial in California was far from convincing and his teenaged accuser was lacking in credibility.

The mother's testimony wasn't very credible either. She was expressing her concerns that michael jackson might abduct her children in a hot air balloon, among other things.
The child also claimed that a two-month old playboy was the one michael had shown him at Neverland.
There really wasn't the evidence to prove it, but in the eyes of the average person he's still a child molester.

I don't know what to make of this, I don't want to say that the justice system failed because it didn't, if there is even a shadow of doubt in the mind of the jurors, they're supposed to let the person go. That's how the system is set up, it was nice to see that he handled the situation tastefully (no SUV-hopping).

Exactly why people were nervous about having a thread about this topic.

I honestly don't think he did anything illegal, and never did.
Creepy? Sure. But MJ is just a very troubled man who seems to have regressed into the mind of a child. Granted his judgment is just awful, but I sincerely doubt he is at all malicious or dangerous (other than to himself, maybe).

I agree completely with what Alexxx said. I think he's psychologically messed up, perhaps moreso than the average person, but I can't see him being a criminal. I'm glad for him.

The media has pushed such a biased opinion on me about the case that I refuse to make up my mind about what I think. I'm not glad, nor am I unhappy...I'm not in the position to judge. None of us are.

Well, I don't know about the others, but the reason I didn't want this to have a thread is because I think it's trivial and the biggest waste of news time since the last celebrity screw up/dating rumor/etc.
Society's priorities piss me off.

I wasn't going to comment but *sigh* here goes.
This case isn't important, but it is interesting. That is why it is in the news. Why not make a thread about it? It is something to talk about. We know there are more important issues in the World, but that isn't stopping any of you from logging into the clumsymonkey to talk about a random canadian rock band. Does that mean your priorities are mixed up? No.
I could make a case as to WHY this case is important however. Say he was found guilty. That knowledge may be important if you were an avid fan and supporter. Perhaps the knowledge of him being a convicted sex offender would be enough for you to burn all your MJ belongings and never support him again. (It would be for me if I were a fan) If it wasn't a news story, you could continue feeding the profit of a child rapist. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to unknowingly do that. Yes, there are several other such cases, but they don't have nearly the connection to everyone in the World that this one did. As someone else mentioned, it would be broadcast locally because you might have some sort of connection to that individual.
On a side note, I think MJ is messed up and wouldn't let my kids within 100 miles of him. However, I think the correct verdict was made.

as much as it pains me to do so, i think the verdict the jury gave was correct. that DA didn't bring up enough solid evedence and he won't be re-elected. his career is in ruins.
about a year ago this 17 or 18 year old kid in the area was dating and ellegedly killed his 14 year old girlfriend. charges of statutory rape and murder were brought against him, our DA didn't bring in enough evidence (he's not a student of the law) and the guy was only found guilty for the statutory rape. he was found innocent of the charges the same way MJ was.
the DA got re-elected too. (well, only because we had to choose between him and another person that was accused of sexual harassment the last time he held office.)

So, whats the deal with the Jacksons? Apparently a reality show has been pitched around to various channels (none which will bite, by the way) to show how the Jackson family delt with the trial. Not only would that be a worse show then Britney and Cleatus, but there are two really strange things about this whole thing.
The first is that this means for the past two months Mama and Papa Jackson have been filming themselves along with their kiddies. Who films a reality show during a trial that could send their son/brother away to prision for 20 years? What were they thinking? All of their reaction are on tape. Thats just a little too weird for me.
The other thing is, apparently the show was pitched around to all these stations, BEFORE the verdict was announced. Before they found him innocent the Jackson family wanted a television show about the trial. Thats a little fucked up.

Umm.. the Jackson family is more than a "little" fucked up, hon.
