Nikki I don't think anyone else thinks that. It really doesn't matter what a person's career is. I mean goodness, all of John Kerry's money comes from ketchup for crying out loud.

I've never made that assumption. However you assume the only reason I didn't join is because he's an icecream man. I just said that's why I pay no attention to him. I didn't join because it's pointless and a waste of time.

And don't tell me that you're not going to explain it to me AND say I suck because I didn't join. You can't have your cake and eat it too... or in this case, your ice cream.

I never said you suck, Corey. I said you clearly aren't going to join because of your bias against the site (which I still don't really understand) and therefore I'm not going to waste my breath (finger movement?) explaining what it is to you. Anyone who wants me to and shows interest in joining, I'll gladly try.

Also, in the first paragraph of your last post, you completely contradicted yourself. Just thought I'd point that out.

Smiley or no smiley, the intent of the post was to draw a reaction. She posted a link to a site to make people aware, to which I
politely ignored and made no comments. Then when nobody responded she decided to bump the thread by making a cute comment so people would talk about it. Well here we are talking about it and I in turn made my own cute comment by taking a jab at the ice cream guy. Tacky? Yes. I apologize that I came off as disagreeing with the site because of Mr. Ben&Jerry there.

There are actually many factors why I think that site is bunk. I think in his last video he balanced the budget with Oreos. That is misleading and just plain absurd. That site uses people to push its agenda by picking events that are important to the site and spin them. How does that represent the "TrueMajority"?

Furthermore, if you need some website to write the words to a letter for you, slap your name on it, and send it to congress then that is not only lazy but fraudulent as well.

It's not fraudulent if you agree with what's written within the fax. I read every form fax carefully before sending, and I don't send ones that I don't fully agree with. The site's not forcing anyone to "push their agenda". It's to raise awareness of what actually happens in Congress. You can believe that they spin the facts all you want, but ANY place people get the news from will be spun in a certain direction. It's simply a news source with easy access to a way to contact Congress. Plain and simple.

I don't understand what you find misleading and absurd about using simple ways of conveying facts.

Lastly, I didn't say "you people suck" because nobody joined, but because nobody replied to my post. And, yes, as Sarah said: it was a joke. Try lightening up, dude.

It takes a lot more than moving a cookie from one pile to another to get things done. It makes it sound like all of the world's problems are easily solved. By definition, "misleading". These methods aren't just simple, they are laughable that they are enough to spark political movement from somebody.

Sure, that isn't bias. The use of the word "corrupt" alone reveals this elitist site's motives.

Sure you may be against this motive but reading the default letter they send just says that Social Security has been beneficial in the past. Well great, but what does that do for us in the future? Nothing when the system goes bankrupt. A whiney letter to your representative doesn't help things much either.

"Click here to tell the oil company CEO's you'll boycott if they drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. "

Great idea, if it were possible. This one is the most rediculous. How on earth are you going to stop using gas? Furthermore make the claim that you are going to convince everyone you know to stop using gas. Sorry, but the fuel industry has us by the balls. Are you going to turn off your heat, stop driving, not use anything plastic, and avoid any electrical device for the rest of your life? Unless you're Amish, which would be difficult to join an Internet site if you were, I think not. Empty threat.

Your poking fun wasn't poking fun, though... you seemed genuinely serious.

Anyway, those might not be real issues to you, because you're clearly on the opposite side of the fence. It may say those short sentences on the site, but when you get actual e-mails from them, there are a lot of facts to back up their statements, with links to references.

My whole problem with this site is that it tries to speak FOR you. It writes an email or fax or whatever and slaps your name on it. And ONLY the issues that are important to the site. What if I found a poem I really liked and put my name on it as the author (Val anyone?). Would that be ok?

There's also the factor that this site actually is worse off with the more members it has. Say 50 people send their congressman an email and every single one says the EXACT same thing only with different names and actually are sent from the same location. That just looks like spam. I think I throw out 100 emails a day that all say the same thing with different made up names. I just don't think copy-paste is an effective way to get your point across.

As for the current video. He makes a claim that the US has X billion dollars worth of nuclear weapons. Maybe thats true but what is ludicrous is that he says we should put that money into education. Now I'm all for increasing the budget of education but how exactly do we transfer the money from weapons to education if it has ALREADY BEEN SPENT. Does he suggest we sell the weapons? I'm pretty sure that isn't what he wants. No, he doesn't want to do anything really other than pull at your heart strings and get you to join his cause.

I think his point is that we can prevent them from spending even MORE money on weapons. Or at least try. That's how I see it, anyway.

I've thought about the form letter thing myself, actually... but then I thought about it more and realized that the government (or rather the interns that they make read all the incoming mail from citizens) most likely don't read non-form letters all the way through anyway. It's basically a way of letting them know how many people feel strongly about an issue. I almost always get replies from congress, and the replies always inform me even more about the issues. So even if it's not actually accomplishing anything in congress (which it actually has, though I can't remember the specific issues it's worked on, but there have been "we did it!" e-mails to members), it's informing people... which is certainly an accomplishment in itself.
