Gotta love those drugs with side effects of "suicidal thoughts" or whatever. That seems like more than a side effect to me. :wtf:

I must ask, though... why did you have to take pregnancy tests, Kimmy? Is it really bad to get pregnant while you're on this stuff?

yeah, it can apparently cause severe birth defects. every single little pill flap that i peeled back had a little silohuette of a pregnant woman with a mullet and a big crossed-out red circle over her. which i don't think is very informative - to me it just looked like an anti-pregnant + mullet warning.

yeah i was on it in highschool.

The Sideeffects are very very scary, i felt the same way. They have to be some of the worst you can get from a prescription.

But yeah it really is a miracle drug aswell. It worked great for me, and i'm fine now, and although i never had a chronic problem like some people do with acne, i did have it bad enough and it was presitent, even to tetracycline.

I didn't get any of the really scary side effects like blindness or anything. I just had dry skin, and chapped lips and depression. But when people say chapped lips its not your average chapped lips, mine were bad and gross untill i got better chapstick. As for the depression, i did get pretty depressed at times, but not suicidal or anything, and it wasn't all the time.

i'd say it's pratty safe though cause near the end i switched to a diffrent dosage amount in the pills, so i had to count the mg's i was taking a day, but when they switched it i mixed it up and realized id been taking double the dose for a week and had a bad headache. After calling the pharmacist though turns out i was still ok, as long as i skipped a few days. Oh an whatever you DON'T DRINK.

But yeah, i'd say just read the manual, but don't let it freak you out or anything.

Oh have you tried tetracycline yet though?

I took it. The only side effect I had was dry skin on my face. A little hand cream fixed that up.

Oh yeah, and pretty bad chapped lips.

ok, i was on accutane a few years back. first off, this drug works freaking wonders. after being on it, i've not had a single major breakout. the odd zit here and there, but that's about it.

side effects.
watch out for depression. i got into a funk while i was on it...luckily, it was near the end of my time on it, and once i was off it, i was fine.
the dry skin is the single worst one. if you get super dry skin, try using complex 15 face lotion. i swear by it. for lips, carmex is a damn good lip chap.

um. what else..
DON'T DRINK! you can screw up your liver, like my lovely friend who drank while he was on it.
and be careful of eating junk food..you really really don't want to screw up your cholesterol and lipids and junk at this age.

it's not a fun drug to be on, but it definitely does work. just follow every direction, and if you do get bad side effects, go. to. your. doctor.

yes, so i just repeated everything everyone else said. but that's ok!

i haven't ttied tetracyclin, when i went in a assumed that, that was probably what i would get, but i got started on accutane. yeah, she really emphasized the "don't drink part." i have the pills, but i still havent started.
so hopefully i'll take my first one later on today and won't grow a new arm or anything, lol.

they put me on tetracycline before i started accutane.
it didn't work.
but that's weird that they didn't put you on tetra first....they usually tend to use accutane as a last resort.

oh. you might lose hair. isn't that one of the side effects, too?

or a reversible beard.
...don't ask.

i think that minor hair thinning is a side effect. aaaand...googling...yes, it is. i found that i shedded a lot while i was on it. it's nothing noticeable, though. so don't freak out if your hair ends up in the drain.
and if you do go bald 40 years down the road, just blame accutane anyway.
