I haven't been around these parts in over a year, but man. I had the stupidest smile on my face while listening to this for the first time.

That really blew me away.

I haven't listened to OLP in quite a while, but I'm gonna go dig out some old CD's and pop 'em in and start paying attention over here again.

Yeah, you missed the Wolf and Fight the Good Fight too... You've got a bit of catching up to do...
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

The Wolf's not bad! Definitely beats anything we found on Burn Burn IMO.

FTGF is good for what it is: a song thrown together for a good cause. I highly doubt we'll see that song on the new record or anything else, so i'm okay with it.

I caught "This Is It" and the live session a couple months back and i enjoyed it...this record seems like it's shaping up quite nicely. I don't want to jinx it but I'm pretty confident. Raine's got the power back into his voice, and a little bit of the falsetto creeping back in. Overall, I dig it.

yeah, it won't be. They wouldn't have given it away for free if it was going to be on the album.

The falsetto was definitely noticeable a lot more in the live performances over the summer. They did If You Believe in Niagara Falls and we were blown away... it was way more powerful than any performance of it from the Evening With Tour.... hands down.

I'm really excited for the album and I'm glad that for once it seems like the majority of comments here are positive! :D

The fact that he was using it shows he's growing more comfortable with it again, a good sign...

I haven't listened to much OLP in quite a while, but I'd be willing to give this record a try. Like many said, this is make it or break it for me. I don;t mean to be negative towards the band but my interest in them kind of faded out after Burn Burn... i think this'll be good though..

The Wolf is more than not bad. It's hella awesome. Maybe I'm bias since I saw it live.

But I already like this album more than Burn Burn, that's for sure.

LOL, wow.. reading this old thread is painful. AYD really really got no love. I have to admit AYD is still incredibly hard for me to listen to all the way through. A lot of you are saying that the 41 seconds of "heavyweight" are totally blowing BB out of the water and I agree at this point. This is what we've been waiting for and I hope there is more of this charged sound on the record.

Heavy Alibi wrote:I just walked down OLP Memory Lane for some perspective on all the positive feedback "Heavyweight" is getting... and I found this retro thread from when a clip of the studio version of "All You Did" was first played on the Strombo Show, and wow what a stark contrast to the feedback that "Heavyweight" is getting now:

So even if Heavyweight isn't 100% perfect, we can rest assured it's miles ahead of the first single from BB, and I think it may very well end up the best single since Right Behind You. ALS is its only competition as far as I'm concerned.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Guys i think that in Burn Burn not all the song are bad...for example Paper Moon it's one of my favourites OLP's song ever...i think that in Paper Moon Raine's singing style it's right with the meaning of the song, naturally also the entire "Heavyweight" can beat Paper Moon i don't know!...however the clip "Heavyweight" beat the almost Burn Burn this is true! But not the entire Burn Burn...naturally it's a personal thought...

Yeah, once you see a song live once... or twice :D I think it changes it for you... and there's something there that a video recording just can't capture.

i would just like to say that i was not a fan of AYD when i first heard it but that song took on a whole new life on tour, now it becomes a big highlight of every show for me.

hmmm, could be because I always gotta figure out where the hell raine is gonna wander off to or climb on or jump off etc lol

Burn Burn is far from a bad album. It's just not that interesting or exciting. Theres a lot of songs I love on there.

interesting fact

without burn burn there would be no olp#8 - burn burn was a record that needed to be made - was deff a transsitional record and phase for the guys - but i can assure you it did the job that it was meant to do, not every record is created to simply please fans or sell - what you hear on these records is a direct reflection of where the band is at a given time... and considering what happened between healthy and burn burn it becomes very apparent that it would no doubt be a different record for olp....that was just them doing what they do and i think a b ig part of it was them just finding themselves after 15 years of being part of the machine you know what i mean?

That being said all I can tell you is that this new record is simply fucking awesome....well that's my opinion at least but i havent had stupid grins on my face like this since I heard the big green monkey or if you believe or happines and the fish or paper moon or big dumb rocket or naveed or picture...or...well i dunno there are a few.

fyi - im listing to heavyweight right now - i just love the bridge! you guys heard that part right? oh wait nevermind heeheh

Contest idea! On the next tour, have a contest for each show to have someone hop on stage and sing a song with the band. You can't be the only to have all the fun. Haha. Besides the guy who jumped on stage and stole the mic from Raine.

Oh, and the bridges tend to be one of my favorite parts, so color me jealous.
