good idea, because there could easily be people using your wireless connection depending on what type of encryption you have. pretty much anyone can bypass a WEP encryption.

dsl only does it based on distance to the box not the actual volume online.

Stupid question but have you restarted your modem (Cable or DSL)?

Power it off for 10-30 seconds then power it back on let everything re-synch itself and try it all out again.

I did, yeah.

But right now I have other problems. And as far as I can tell, the internet is perfectly fine again anyway.

But, okay, so I'm on my own computer right now, the one where I'm locked out of Windows. A friend of mine gave me a trick to let me open a web browser, from which I can access all my files. Is there any way I can actually transfer my files from here? The only method I've figured so far is to open them and re-save them to a new location, which is mind-blowingly tedious.

i have a question. i downloaded a movie and it's an .avi file...when i try to play it in vlc media player, it doesn't work. it just skips through the whole thing. how can i watch it? i swear it was working before.

Sounds like you don't have the right codecs for it.

Ace Mega Codecs should solve your problem. *thumb*

Guys guys guys! I have a functioning computer!!!
And Windows is pretty.
I lost almost all my music in the transfer though, kind of a bummer. But I hear there's programs that can let you transfer music off your iPod?

The skipping video could either be a codec or possibly your computer doesn't have the power to run it properly.

Is the video only skipping? Audio only? Or both?

Any clue if it's Divx encoded?
Try checking out the Divx player and see if that works any better.

As for the iPod, I've never used one but it seems to me you should just be able to hook up the USB cable and Windows will find it as an external drive. (Same as it would a thumbdrive)

But being an Apple product they tend to do things their own way just to be a pain in the ass instead of following common logic.
