i was typing up a response
here it is:
my xp machine has serious issues.
it has no mouse
usb
the start button is temper mental..
i know there is a program out there that'd just let me run it at startup and that i'd just sign into from the vista machine.. specifically given my xp machine will be on top of a shelf (closer to the fan) and i plan on never touching unless absolutely needed

So you have both PCs on the network right?

Are any drives shared on the XP machine?

From Vista you can try running '\\XPMachine'
(Replace XPMachine with the actual name of your XP System)

my cd burner recently had a cd blow up in it.. i cleaned out what i could without dumping over the computer or removing the drive.. i put a cd in the other day ( a blank one, hell no im not ruining another good cd) and it was spinning normally and recognized the disk.. i think theres still some shit caked in the back from the cd that blew.. should i clean it or just lower my burning settings and try it?

my computer couldn't like catch fire or anything right?

Did you put a burned disc in, or a factory from the store cd?

I'd recommend a new burner if you have a store bought computer that has passed it's warranty period. You can get an LG or Lite On for under 30 dollars.

haha yeah. i was sitting here listening to some band and it was like BAHAHDOSKOSMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM REEEE REEEE REEE. i thought someone had broken in until i came back and my computer was froze and i realized what had happened.

Waited - Just plunk down $20 - $30 for a new burner. If the disc shattered it was more than likely into a billion (Give or take a few) pieces.

It's rare but can happen. The centificial force of the CD spinning at 10,000 some RPM will rip it apart if there are any minor cracks or defects in the CD.

Never had that happen to me personally but on a related note: Always wait for the CD to come to a complete stop before hitting that eject button.

Back in the day I hit eject while I was playing a CD and it immediatley spit out, flew across the room and shattered into a billion pieces when it hit the wall behind me.

The past week my internet has been going extraordinarily slow, and I have no idea why. Nobody's downloading anything.
If I want to watch tv-show online, for instance, I'll have to leave it to buffer for an hour or so, whereas usually I just play it right away. It takes twice as long to load anything as it does to watch.

I do have wireless, but it's protected. And I eventually plugged in my computer in case the wireless was screwed up. As far as I can tell it's working fine right now, but it's been plugged in since 1 or so (or, uh, 11:30 EST) and only started being not-infuriating less than an hour ago.

Could always just be your service acting screwy, too. Or, if your neighbors are going crazy with the downloads, that could slow you down, too.
