I'm thinking maybe one of the filenames on a picture in her LiveJournal of "Val" could be labelled with the original filename by accident? Hopefully maybe containing the girl's real name? Just a thought.

it's really tough. I know it has to be someone from her high school, or that she's known for a while now. I doubt it's just some random girl she's found online...

Yeah, I think she's just saved the pictures and uploaded them there.
Another hint (though this will be just a TAD bit hard to find
), when she graduated high school, they wore green caps & gowns.
