It has been very quiet since, but it's pretty safe to say the single release was intended to soften the news of Jeremy's departure and to show that they're still a viable band. In the interviews around that time they pretty much said that a new album was pretty far off still, and they were taking a pretty relaxed approach, just working when the gaps in everyone's schedules line up nicely.

Hopefully in a few weeks I can dig a little dirt out of one of them in Detroit.

The news of Jer and the style genre the new single really put a damper on the band for me. I'd be nice to hear some additional content. I'm really hoping some of the new tracks they're working on speak to me a little more. Duncan had said they'd be releasing Grocery List in an interview after curve when they first started working on new content, but I have a feeling that with Jer backing out, everythings off the table.

Here's the thing with songs that don't make albums...we'll never hear them . Any sense of hope you have about hearing them is false. Never ever bank on it. Kiss On The Mouth is the lone exception, and it was a force out by Sony.

I wish OLP gave a little more thought to their fans with stuff like that. I'm not someone who thinks bands owe anything to their fans (beyond perhaps doing tours), but it's not hard to release demos and b-sides. I always bring up the comparison, but Matthew Good consistently releases demos to his fans as he is working on an album. With his new album he released 3 demos (including a 20-minute instrumental song) before scrapping those tracks and starting from scratch. So it's cool that we have some unreleased stuff and he cared enough to share them with us. He also takes the time to post on his fan site and talk with the fans.

My understanding is that Mike used to do stuff like that back in the day, but I wish the band interacted more now, and gave back more. They don't owe it to us, but it's so easy to do so I don't understand why they wouldn't.

EDIT - As an example, check out this page from Matthew Good's forum on his new album: http://www.nearfantastica.com/bored/top ... ge__st__60

He is talking with the fans, getting feedback on the demos, explaining his reasoning for cutting certain songs (economics of recording, etc) and even mentions bringing back a demo from 2 albums ago for this new album.

I agree. I feel like OLP has become a hobby of the members. It's not really their life anymore, but rather the side project to their adult responsibilities. I don't necessarily blame them, but I feel the disappointment and sense of loss non-the-less.

I get where you're coming from, but how was it that we ever heard Tales from a Grocery List in the first place? Let's not forget that the band did share that song. Not in its final form, but they did a webcast for about 25 minutes while working on the arrangement, and there was enough material that we could edit it down to a 4:40 rough sketch of a song: http://www.bringbackthesun.com/files/CM ... 202%29.mp3

If they follow through then I will definitely give them credit, it's a move long overdue.

However, let's not get too excited until there are songs on our computers. Raine/OLP gets excited about a lot of stuff with no follow through.

I hope they are looking to actually release all of the good demos/b-sides though, and not just a few.

To help refresh people's memories on what might be in the vault, I took a few minutes to review the unreleased songs and sort them by the album they would have been considered for inclusion. I've italicized ones that seem unlikely to have a complete demo, and bolded ones that definitely have finished-ish demos.

Naveed:
Blind Anniversary, Edge of Sanity, Out of Here, Personal Parade, Sorry

Clumsy:
Home, Trapeze (+at least 6 other songs)

Happiness sessions:
Ordinary Day, Sleeping In, Yourself

Spiritual Machines:
A Waste of Violence, La Bra

Gravity:
Angelina's Song, Our Time Is Fading, Stop Screaming

Healthy in Paranoid Times:
End of the World, Enemy, Hit the Wall, No Warning, Save Yourself, Talk Is Cheap, Vampires, Weight of the Lord, (+20 other songs)

Burn Burn:
Song7, What Kind of Life (+at least 3 other songs, supposedly)

Curve:
Body Into Soul, Comes and Goes, A Day Without The Sun, Moth, Tales From A Grocery List, Warnings, (+at least 4 other songs)
