I bought some lavendar bubble bath from Bath and Body works for my DVD player.

Add in a few scented candles and the smooth jazz sounds of Kenny G and she's been good to me ever since.

I need some advice on laptops. I need a new one; after being used like a desktop the last 3 years, my dell inspiron is crapping out on me. i was looking at a dell xps to replace it, but a bunch of people since have warned me against buying from dell. So i guess my question is what do people recommend for a lightweight laptop that has lots of memory space for all the pictures and music and crap i keep on my computer, is durable enough for me to lug around, and is capable of running a game or two?

i'd say it depends on the price range you're looking at as well

I use a Dell XPS and I love it dearly.


And the folks from Dell have been really good to me whenever I've had a problem. Really helpfull and polite.

my folks are putting in some money for next year's birthday/graduation. so i have around 2 grand to play with. though i'd be willing to spend a little more if it means that i get more than 3 years out of the computer. i also probably won't be as hard on it, though. no more leaving it on 24/7 for months on end, heh.

hmm i should sleep right now but i'll look into some stuff some more.. i know HP makes some good laptops as does sony, the vaios are really nice from what ive seen but both tend to be pricey

i was debating mac. the turnoff for me is the lack of games. though i suppose i have my xbox...

it seems that macs are really expensive - is there really that much of a quality difference to make it worthwhile?

yes there is. and macs can run windows in multiple ways. you can install it side by side with parallels, a program that will allow you to run both the mac OS and a windows OS and switch between them on the fly, thus allowing you to play windows games. There is also a program called Boot Camp which works similar to emulation to run windows. You can just turn it on to have windows as an available OS running on top of your Mac OS. Both will work. There are a few pros and cons to which you choose, Boot Camp or Parallels, but they're very minor and wouldn't inconvenience you.

hmm. i did not know that. thanks lando, that might change things. i'm glad i have a few months to research before i buy - i feel like i have no clue how to find what i want in a computer.

yeah research is a good idea. test computers out, hands on if you can (maybe a friend has a new laptop or in store) and research things a little deeper and you'll find things you like and want or that you feel you don't need.

if it's only buying from dell that you've been cautioned about, and not actually buying a dell, claire, you should know that dell's selling their computers in retail stores now. staples has some models, and i know walmart definitely does (though you can't get extended warranties through them, which i strongly recommend you get), and i think futureshop does as well, though their service is supposed to suck because they're on commission.

if i was buying a laptop, i would get an hp, because they're nicer, you've got a lot of variety to choose from, and stuff tends to go wrong with them less often. mac is also definitely an option too. the only thing with that is that apple is notoriously diificult to deal with, and despite popular opinion, sometimes stuff actually does go wrong with macs. we at staples have actually stopped carrying macs in canada, because of the grief apple's given us.

if you're going to be getting it later on in the year, i'm not going to recommend a specific model. just make sure you get one with a dual core processor, 2 gb of ram or more, and a decent videocard - nvidia or ati.
