yeah thats pretty well my point

if you know all along whats going on then its one thing
if you find out half way thru senior year that you now have to raise atleast 10 grand by sept thats not easy or fair
especially when they did what they did for her bro's and just to drop it on her like that

I get most of my education paid for by OSAP. The most you have to pay back for OSAP is 24,000$ if you go to school for 4 years. Basically if you have financial need like I do (coming from a one parent home) you should get 6,000$ from OSAP as well as a 3,000$ bursary that does not need to be paid back. Luckily I made a lot last summer so I'm using my bursary every year to pay off half of my osap loan.

Also, The profession I want to do after university pays some really good starting wages so I'm hoping I can have my loan paid off really quick. I'm also going to try and enter the "as prime Minister" essay contest where they give away 10 prizes of 10,000$. So that would help greatly as well.

Whats OSAP?

It's a loan program set up by the Ontario government. As far as I know every province has it.

Oh well, without it I wouldn't be going to university, so I'm not complaining.

what are you going into Jim?

yeah, because of my need i don't have to pay for college at all nor for my books, mostly through scholarships that you get if you have a high enough GPA and have need.

i probably wouldn't be going to school if not for FAFSA (which i'm guessing is the equivalen to OSAP)

it's funny because osap thought my mom made too much money ... uh yeah, a 50 something year old mom with 2 kids still living at home, working as a dietary aide in a nursing home makes too much? blah, it pissed me off.

Yeah, FAFSA ripped me off.

They looked at my Dad's salary and thought we were rich. Think again. So I get no money unless they don't claim me on their insurance, which can't do or I won't be covered. So loans it is.

I'm a psych and politics joint major. I'm planning on going for my masters in either public policy and administration or political science, then I hope to get a job working with the provincial government (or the federal government if I can live in Toronto). I'm hoping to do either policy work, or work with MPP's behind the scenes in the commons.

What about you?

Don't you have to enter what your mom makes from what she reported on her income tax?

sure, and apparently they thought it was enough that she should be able to afford to send me to school .. i guess being a single mom with a shit job didn't matter.

that's weird, and sucks. There are definitely a lot of people who don't need loans that do get them, and it causes people who need them to get left out.
