I've been playing around, and I think I've figured out how he plays Juicy. I'm slow at it, it sounds sloppy, and it hurts like a motherfucker (index finger rubbing against the A string while I "pluck" at E), but I think I've got the right idea.

did you pick up any hints from watching it live?

Yeah. I would have had no idea otherwise. Originally I thought it was just distortion layered with some effects. Now I see that he's actually plucking the string and letting it slap back down on the neck of the guitar to give it that really sharp steely sound. He is, of course, using distortion, and I think he may also have a slight delay or reverb on.
It's definately the playing style that makes the sound, though.

I just mastered screaming ala Levitate, I Is Us, etc...
Now my throat is sore, and I sound all phlemy.
But it sounded damn cool.

Thread revival!

OLP? While he's at it, he should take over. The band wants an in-your-face lead guitarist who can solo like no tomorrow? Yeah. Jag's your man.

Exactly, frankly i believe Steve does have the talent, but he needs someone like jag to encourage him

Right on, an IME thread. I got into these guys when I first picked up that cd of un-released and acoustic songs EMI put out; (I didn't know the mothers didn't endorse it at the time) needless to say I was hooked from then on.
It amazes me wherever I go they aren't more appreciated. Every album they've put out has been on a different plane of sound. Actually to be quite honest, God Rocket is probably the most amazing song I have ever heard in my life; the background noises, the way it rises from one climax to another, the instrumentation and the lyrics make it just incredible.
If anyone here is actually going to make it to the show on the 28th, you should bootleg a couple songs and throw them on the hub for those of us who aren't in the area.
