Same here. At least it seems to be about something, and not just Raineisms.

"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

Wipe That Smile.. and Walking in Circles are both pretty good... they're much different than what i thought they'd sound like, but they're good. I'm not exactly blown away by them, but they've got an interesting sound and they seem to have much more substance than anything on Gravity

And I love the Craven version of Not Afraid, with lyrics that actually make sense :D , and i thought Thief was beautiful...

Oh, Walking In Circles was played at the Craven show! I just found that on the hub. Here I am wondering how you are all making such opinions based on that crappy recording of the song

Too bad the hub isn't working for me right now...It says it's going at like 1.10 kbps, but the percentage stays at 0 and the total to be d/l-ed doesn't go down any

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...

I'm with jo_mamma86 in that Not Afraid is the only new song I like. And my opinion is to leave politics to the politcall arena and not base songs around them. It's only my opinion, but I think it ruins good music. It's the sole reason I didn't like RATM. It just got really annoying and overshadowed the music, especially if you don't share the same views. Sure, artists are allowed to express their own opinions, but I just think letting them totally infiltrate their art. Musicians are there to make music, let the politicians dabble in politics. Once again, its just my opinion and I know people will yell at me.... but don't because it's my birthday and I'm already depressed.

happy bday dude

i agree with you that politics can sometimes overshadow the music, especcially if its overly in your face. more subtle meanings that make you think about the message instead of telling you presisly what they feel is wrong/right. for example, the wonderful mr. good manages to incorporate a political aspect to his music without taking it over.

The time has come
To drop the bomb
On the pain you've been selling

I love this stanza. It implies the litteral war aspect of the song without slapping you in the face and saying "THIS SONG IS ABOUT DROPPING BOMBS AND SMILING WHILE YOU DO IT! GET IT?!? GET IT?!?!"

Even the chorus

This is war, I'm gonna
Wipe that smile off your face

That could just be like the classic Bugs Bunny "This ... means ... war"
