I think Matt was supposed to be going for the under produced feel on this album. Maybe not under produced, but just not as giant as Avalanche. its nice to see that the set is being changed up a bit, its only a week into the tour and besides playing all the songs off the new album he has also worked all these into the set.

all pre-lotga stuff was folky as hell.
lotga was indy, definitely.
underdogs was grunge.
beautiful midnight was alt-rock, as was aob.
avalanche is harder to classify. it's mostly alt-rock, but at the same time it became more personal singer-songwriter-y whilst simultaneously developing a bigger, more epic sound.
