I wonder if they'll make Robin an official member at the same time they add a new drummer?

I'm going to be critical here and say this disco dance beat sounds like it came from a pre-loaded beat backing track on a piece of software normally reserved for the $5 clearance bin at Staples. It doesn't have that OLP sound apart from Raines voice.

Give me some some low bass rhythm and some winding guitar chords give me a drum track that doesn't sound like it came from my daughters Sesame Street CD. This song does nothing to set itself apart from the rest of the crap thats on the radio today.

Disappointing.

As for Jer (I think this may had been touched on already but I've only glanced at a few previous replies) I'm wondering if he gave up because of crap songs like this made with no effort and quarrelling took place ala HIPT. Guess we'll see how the rest of the album turns out.

Best of luck Jer! :jer:

So I reached out to my local alternative station last night and asked them if they'd heard the new single. The DJ said he hadn't heard about it but that he'd give it a listen and get back to me. They played it at their music meeting this morning and decided it's not alternative enough for the station and would probably do better on pop/adult channels. I'm disappointed, but while I disagree that it doesn't fit with what they've been playing lately (there are several songs by alternative artists that sound like they belong on the local Top 40 channels), I do agree that the single is not really that alternative.

Guess I'll just have to content myself with listening to the album when it comes out, and requesting the "old school" OLP on the radio when I can.

Just want me some of that iTunes version because I can't stand Mr. Radio DJ talking over the intro.

Yeah I thought the lettering was strange, and really not a fit with the band. Meh.

Yeah... That styling of OLP is not my favorite thing ever. Well, at all. I do like the contrast it was going for, tho.

Interesting interview...about the new album i'm curious about this statement:
"Maida adds that it’s a pretty good barometer for the album to come (referring to Won't Turn Back), while stating that it certainly won’t be Curve or Clumsy Part Two. He explains that the band have embraced a sound that is more catchy rhythmically, has a danceability to it, all the while maintaining an aggressive underlying tone. It’s not “fluffy,” he assures."
Well we need only to wait guys! And he doesn't tell nothing about a new drummer...however i'm not afraid of Elizondo..i read that he is also the producer of Avenged Sevenfold that for me is a great band (can you listen the new single from the last album "Hail to the king", of course is another genre totally different from OLP)...i'm afraid (like we can read on the interview) of the new direction that the band want to take! Let's see what happen..

That's a pretty good interview! He seems really enthusiastic about the new material

"another really amazing song we’ve recorded is called ‘Falling into Place,’” he offers. “It’s about all of the experience you have in life and everything you encounter – the struggles especially – and taking all of that in stride. That’s part of life, man. If it was easy, you’d be bored."

"" three songs, [“Won’t Turn Back”] included, that are three of my favourite OLP songs that we’ve recorded in a long time. I don’t know how it happened, but the reaction’s been amazing."

Interesting stuff!

If their goal is to put out an album that is catchy and you can dance to...that is discouraging.

Wow, a lot of news since my last visit. Insane to hear Jeremy has left after all these years, but I wish him all the best. Also crazy to hear Mike was invited to join the Naveed anniversary tour, which was sadly canceled.

And onto the single, like many others here I definitely enjoy it much more than All You Did, The End Is Where We Begin, and possibly any single (except "Heavyweight") since Spiritual Machines. It doesn't have much of an OLP vibe per se, but it's so goddamn catchy it's impossible to dislike!

If their goal is to put out an album that is catchy and you can dance to...that is discouraging.

In a way I can agree, but in the interview Raine did say that it isn't "fluffy" stuff, and that it has an aggression to it. I think it could work well, but that remains to be seen.

I wonder if others, like me, are somehow markedly less excited for this album than for Curve and especially Burn Burn? I'm just not feeling that excitement for new OLP music as much as I used to. I haven't listened to their stuff in a heck of a long while, and while WTB is certainly catchy as a summer pop tune and could signify an interesting foray for OLP, it doesn't pump me up nearly as much as Heavyweight did for more of their stuff. Also seems to be a lot less hype for this new album so far, notably less intimate and interactive stuff (where's Trusty?) for the fans, and no forewarning for the single. It's a pity that Jeremy's departure probably got the Naveed tour canceled and maybe bummed out the boys... I would have paid an arm and a leg to attend that tour!

Raine had announced a week or so before on Twitter or Instagram that a new song was done and would coming out shortly, but yeah it was not a widespread announcement. Easy to miss, or to write off due to the usual Raine/OLP time delays.

I think that Trusty did the art for the single, but it sounds like they're squeezing work in just whenever the new producer has time and don't really have a firm timeline/plan for the album. Releasing Won't Turn Back right now seems to be more to soften the blow of Jeremy leaving, rather than to kickstart the promotion cycle for the next album, and I don't expect to hear a whole lot until their plans have solidified a little bit.

I put the song on youtube after a "trusted authorization"...it gots yet 600 viewers in 2 days (i'm not an official channel)....it's interesting to see like some people dislike the song and commented that the band is almost finished...of course all of you can join the discussion! I'm trying to answer to all :D

You know, OLP has always been a pop band, and quite frankly they've always been damn good at it. Aside from U2 and Bon Jovi there are few bands that have reinvented themselves with the quality that OLP has and it's the only reason their still around. If Clumsy sounded like Naveed they would have disappeared. If Gravity sounded like Spiritual Machines they would have dissapeared.

Each of their albums with the exception of Curve has been a direct reflection of that time in popular rock music, and it is no coincidence that the affore mentioned album is the only one without a hit single, and I don't mean that as a knock on Curve it was a fine album but it was the diversion not Won't Turn Back, most of us probably feel that OLP was best around the Happiness.. And Spiritual Machines era, but those albums were not a huge experiment when compared to Smashing Pumpkins or Radio Head it just so happens that pop music was better in those days.
