I don't know who all here are fans of Dave Matthews Band, but they let fans openly record all of their concerts, because according to Dave, if it wasn't for their college fanbase trading tapes like they did, they never would be where they are now.

A lot of bands do that. Jason Mraz actually sold "tapers seats" on some shows of his last tour. Maroon 5 used to have a totally open policy, but I'm not sure if that's changed since they've gotten ginormous or not. I haven't bothered checking because I sneak my equipment wherever I go regardless. :lol:

But yeah, lots of bands have open policies.

He got Matt's in TO at Edgefest (said something like "Matt what the heck is all this?!" - I don't remember what exactly), and security confiscated it afterwards, so Matt had to wait around after the concert to get it.

Or am I just delusional?

You are close. They confiscated the tape in my video camera, and made me take the camera to coat check. They had no idea that I still had audio gear. The recording gear ended up on stage and Raine said "This is sick. Matt, buddy, what have you been up to?" Unfortunately in the struggle to get unwired the plug for the mic became dislodged and I only got a few blurbs of the song. But the rest of the recording is great after that. Nikki caught all of it on hers. Duncan and Joel just laughed.

Oh, and Raine's wearing a "Jets Overhead" t-shirt in that picture... one of the opening bands for the tour.

I loved how I asked him if we could take pictures during the set because Kathy was going to get kicked out, and he said he'd see what he could do, and a couple songs into the set he shouted out "Someone told me they're not letting you take pictures" (paraphrased). "Take all the fucking pictures you want!" That was awesome. I think I peed a little. Not really, but that was seriously awesome.

yeah DMB got that from the Grateful Dead who have a tapers section, you have to have taper tickets to be in there. It is serious business in the tapers section..goddess love them. As Jerry Garcia always said, once we play it it's yours. They rubbed off on Phish DMB etc etc.

Matt I though Rained said "this is sick. Matt , what the hell have you been up to?" I laughed my head off at that one. Yeah I smuggled my camera in in a present for Duncan lol

Did you or Josh ever get around to merging our boots of the show? I don't have it if you did, and need to grab it. I just have yours, and mine in wav form from before I mailed it off to Josh forever ago.

No. I'm not really sure how it would sound. I had 2 major position changes. One being escorted out by security and then coming back to where I was, and the other going to the front rail.

It's not the levels that make the difference. The total sound changes and becomes a more crisp sound, less bass. It's like I found the front rail sweet spot by accident.
