the statement I made offends many people, I know... but in no way does it determine my intelligence.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic my whole life... went to church every sunday, and learned religion in school monday-saturday... yes saturday. I learned a lot about world religions, and mostly about Christianity.

My statement was not aimed at any person or religion in particular. It was offensive because it attacked someone's beliefs. I know how it feels to have my beliefs attacked. But all I wanted was for someone to accept what I said with an open mind. I guess the way I said it was very broad... and misunderstood... the problem with text.

you can be a hard-core Catholic and still think for yourself... of course. But they can't change what the church tells them to do.

I'll rephrase the statement so it's not so misunderstood, and leave it at that.

If you don't want to question what life really is... whether there is a God or not... or a hell or not... if you're happy using a system that has been used for thousands of years, then religion will work for you.

Matt... I appreciate your comments. I have a lot of respect for you. You're a smart guy, and you know what you're talking about. You have every right to defend your beliefs, and the well being of everyone on this board. Sorry I rustled your feathers. ;)

and to anyone else I offended... even though I sometimes enjoy doing it, I do apologize. You deserve more than that.

is there room for one more in that group hug? lol you can kick Sand out, he won't mind ;)

i'm catholic
i'm also buddhist
i believe that your truth is not my truth
that god can exist with many different faces at one time.

wisdom teeth - i was only on the laughing gas. that was fun. till the doctor took out a buzz saw, cut my wisdom teeth in half (also cutting into my frozen gums in the process) and proceeded to take the pieces of wisdom teeth outta my mouth.
got home, hurt like hell. took tylenol and advil for the first couple days. third day got worse so i started on the t3s like candy. that lasted till the end of the week. then i was ok.

that's been the worse pain i've ever been in in my life, actually it ties with having severe back problems, and probably getting kicked in the balls.

never got to experience the laughing gas eh?
you keep on trying not to smile/laugh, and yet you end up doing it. it's good times when the dentist is over you.

Laughing gas doesn't work for me. I didn't laugh, nor did it help the pain.

Same with me. I just had mine out a week ago and for the first time I finally ate real food today....tacos from taco bell . Anyways, when I woke up from the operation I was in a different room than where the operation took place and they said I walked into the room but I had no recollection of walking into the room. It was weird.

I was raised Mormon. I have questioned my beliefs, I do every day. But I always get the same answer. I believe it challenges people even more if they are living their religion. I believe alot of people don't bother doing anything, so their non spirituality essentially prepares them to not be able to think for themselves.

See how this could be circles?

Matt, thanks. You're right, religion and politics do divide us. But I don't think that we have to steer clear of the topic all the time and always try to change the subject. Most of us are adult enough to respect one another. I don't hold any grudges against anyone that I have butted heads with on either subject.

Cass and Kruno, you're both essentially right. Lack of religion can be for people who don't like to think for themselves and on the other hand following a religion can be for those who don't like to think for themselves. I myself am an agnostic because after reading the Da Vinci code, it made me question my beliefs and I really didn't know what to believe anymore. I used to be Catholic but now that I'm older I've started to think for myself. Why should I be Catholic just because my parents were? If I were born in Asia does that mean I would most likely be buddhist or something along those lines?

Also, I don't like religious fanatics. It's one thing to believe in a religion, but when you're entire life revolves around it then I think that's a problem. For example, my friend's mom is a religious enthusiast. She forces all her children to go to church, including my 17 year old friend even though he doesn't believe in the religion she does. She also basically believes any propaganda she hears or sees. Sometimes I just want to yell at her, OPEN UP YOUR MIND. But I know that's rude because its her beliefs and everybody has the right to believe in different things.

I was raised Christian, I've read a lot of the bible and know a lot, but after I turned around 14 and thought about God and Religion, it didn't really make sense to me to believe what i was taught when i was young. I thought buddhism made a lot of sense, since it doesn't have a god (i am agnostic) but right now I'm pretty much religion-less.

I need to read about Buddhism and what it's all about because you sound like you're in the same boat as me.
