ya know, i just had a nice talk with mr coutts....here is what we discussed.
BTW duncan is also my 'producer' and a really great friend, as are all the guys - we have been working together for a few years on my stuff (ya i know too much mr trusty info) anyways we like to talk about music....and well it's a known fact that you spend your ENTIRE life writing your first record and get two to make your second - so if anyone wants naveed v2...guess what? you are never going to get it! that's 20 + years of life dictating what you write , very rarely does anyone surpass the pureness and honesty of that first record, it is pure magic - i know this from experience and i know it from writing my own music.
as for bsides, well ya i push it - as a fan first (i used to think i was the number one olp fan till i met you crazy fuckers) , but as someone that wants to see these guys do well too, I really think they have enough material for multiple releases and the way the market is now and the options available to indy artists, well hell it makes sense, i cant guarantee anything, but I can tell ya releasing tracks is an option - hell they are artists , and to get their art out to the world is what this is all about - thank god the avenues that are now there to make it reality, time will tell but like i siad as a fan (who has some pull) I am pushing for it!!!.

That blows my mind. Thanks Trustworthy, looking forward to it. Is it IT now? I for one love the direction of the band -- evolving music all the way. The new record sounds godly. Honestly, best sounding yet. Who ARE you? Billy the Kid? I want more information on you, too.

so if anyone wants naveed v2...guess what? you are never going to get it!
That's fine, personally Naveed is my least favorite of the first four albums. As the band grows I find the records get better (for me Clumsy is better than Naveed, Happines is better than Clumsy, SM is better than Happiness). Gravity and HIPT were a different direction and IMO not a direction the band fully endorsed.
But so far, it seems Burn Burn is takking the next step from Spiritual Machines, with a little influence from Hunter's Lullaby and Gravity. And it just might be as good, if not better than the "classic 4"! Looking forward. It really seems it will be a mix of all previous albums.
From the FULL songs we've heard so far (Monkey Brains counts), this is the vibe I get from each:
- "Monkey Brains" = Naveed
- "Paper Moon" = All first four albums, a bit Gravity
= "All You Did" = Gravity
Oh, and TW, it is spelled "revealed", not "reveald" by the way.. for .NET

Hey, thanks, I was trying to find a newb thread with no luck - I've been a fan since the Happiness days, and I have got too many favorites to name...
I think my album breakdown would go something like this:
Happiness>SM>Naveed>Clumsy>HIPT>Gravity
Based on what we've heard from Burn Burn, it's going to fall somewhere between Happiness and Naveed.
I actually met a couple of you guys (I know I met Gail and Nikki) way back in 2005 at the Philly show at the Troc, and I used to post on Raine's board when it first got started.
Great to finally be able to register here, I was having some problems at first.

Yeah your album breakdown is similar to mine.
Hehe I had the same problems when trying to register here, I'd tried for ages but it wouldn't send me the confirmation email... I finally registered the very night I first saw OLP in concert, and the first time they played a new song (Dreamland) since 2005!
Anyway hoping to see you stick around, lots going on in the OLP community these days, only one month left to go!
Yeah the album is for sure gonna have some influence from the earlier albums... I'm seeing Naveed in "Monkey Brains", and a bit of the other three Emtee/Lanni albums in "Paper Moon" as well. Gravity seems to have some influence though as well, especially with Raine's vocals in most of what we've heard.
You've been a fan since Happiness but I've only been a big one since HIPT, so this will be my first album release experience
I'm so psyched

That's awesome! I tried on two separate computers, and when i would enter all my info, all that would happen was that I would be redirected to a blank page. I finally had my girlfriend register me on hers earlier today, and it worked.
I haven't seen the guys since 2005 in Philly... I am in desperate need of a fix!

Yeah I'll agree with this... What I was getting at, though, was that at this moment that's where it will wind up in my breakdown.

Yeah I'll agree with this... What I was getting at, though, was that at this moment that's where it will wind up in my breakdown. I definitely hear the Gravity influences, and even maybe more of a HIPT influence, on what we've heard. But unlike a lot of HIPT, this just... works. Not to say that HIPT was a bad album by any means, just... Burn Burn sounds complete, whereas HIPT was too overwrought, imo.
Yeah, HIPT was just so contrived, and I'm happy that Raine's been openly honest about how he feels about the album now. A/L/S and a few others were great songs to come out of it, though.
For me I'm not sure where Burn Burn is gonna fall in my breakdown yet... I've always loved OLP because of the beat-influenced melodies and lyrics and the fact that you can just get lost in the music, (and of course Raine's voice, this goes without saying) so I can't judge that from 30 second clips.
But if, for me, it breaks down ahead of any of the first 4 albums, I'll be ecstatic. And I'm really seeing the potential for that to happen
