Exactly. Conversation from the dinner table (please note that my parents DON'T vote):

Dad: So who are you voting for?
Me: Probably Liberal, because I can't stand the thought of Harper in office.
Dad: Don't you think it's a time for change?

I can't even fathom his train of thought. He knew from my response that I hate Conservative, yet he thought it would be reasonable to vote for them just to get rid of the Liberals.

Of course, my dad's an extremely closed-minded, opinionated, racist, prejudice, homophobic man who wouldn't know one party from the other anyways. Do I want to hear his political opinion? No I do not.

This isn't even funny anymore. I have a really sick feeling in my stomach about the results tomorrow. :(

OMG your parents sound like mine! They are extremely prejudiced and would love a right-wing government that will take rights away from minorities. My dad says the liberal party paid too much attention to minorities and deserves to lose the election. He also thinks that high immigration rights are a key reason for problems in Canada.

Please also note that my parents have a gay son and think equal rights for gay/lesbian couples is ridiculous.

This would be why we don't talk politics!

Me too... I think I will feel the same way I did when I watched GWB get re-elected and I thought... "what the hell just happened?" :wtf:

exactly.

I'm really glad my dad doesn't vote.

Unfortunately I have no idea what my mom thinks on these issues. I assume she disagrees with my dad though, because she's pretty tight lipped about it (she tends to be pretty passive about stuff like that).

Hehehe.
I watched Global National tonight.
I cried a little.
They've said its going on a Majority, for the tories.

This isn't fair. I want to be Canadian.

In a minority they will be kept in check by the other parties, although we will run the risk of ending up back at the polls before their term is up (costing millions more $s). In a majority, we are screwed.

And so is Harper... I'm not sure how he's going to please both the extreme right-wingers that backed him, or the middle-of-the-road Canadians and politicians that bought into this new moderate image. Should be interesting actually...

Seriously. This isn't right.

You want to be American, move to the US and stop trying to change my country.

Majority scares me so much.

Ive got a feeling itll be a minority, thats all I can hope for.
Remember, in a minority, they dont have complete freedom. Thats why seriosiously, if your old enough to vote, vote liberal. This will be my first vote (im 18), and any contribution I can make to reducing Conservative power is great.

my dad called just to argue with me about the election; he's hardcore conservative.

i must say, harper has done a much better job at hiding his scariness than last election. he's polished his presentation, and that's helped him a lot.

i decided not to vote in my albertan riding because it's already decided: conservative. there's no question, no doubt, no chance for anyone else.

but here in toronto, there's an actual race. so i'm participating where i'll make a difference. i do believe we need a change in government from the liberals, but i think it has to wait a few years, until the same-sex marriage decision has sat for a while and is less likely to be re-opened. hopefully by then our constitutional rights will be better protected so that a woman's right to choose, and a homosexual's right to marriage are no longer open to be revoked. i'm supporting the liberals right now because of minority rights issues; however i dont LIKE voting liberal - i don't like, or agree with our current government structure and electoral system, and the liberals won't change that.

in a few years time perhaps i'll run; there's no one in politics i can trust to represent me well right now, and there's only one way to change that.
