If they retail it for less than 59.99....I don't agree with you at all. I think it will sell better. Most of us don't like Aerosmith (I'm not a huge fan, either) but I'll most likely buy it. I actually really enjoy guitar hero; I play GH2 and GH3 rather frequently. The next "band" release is supposedly going to be U2 and I can't wait for that to get released. However, like i was telling Johnny last night; they should've done the first "band" release with a group like Led Zeppelin. Something more epic than Aerosmith.

Ahhh poop. Gamestop has the preorder page listed at 59.99 for 360/PS3 and 49.99 for Ps2 version. Figures. Guess we shall see.

I think the 80s version that came out on PS2 would've sold WAY more with a more solid track listing. I am an 80's junkie and I only saw like 5 or 6 songs that I was remotely interested in being able to play.

But see, '80s' has a broader appeal than Aerosmith. 80s encompasses multiple bands and multiple styles, whereas Aerosmith is Aerosmith.

So basically, this game is appealing to people who:

A) Like music games
B) Haven't played Guitar Hero III to see how awful it is or were somehow not scared off by the awfulness of Guitar Hero III
C) Haven't played Rock Band to see how much better it is or were somehow not hooked by the awesomeness
D) Already own at least one plastic guitar
E) Like Aerosmith

that's really uh... whittling down the potential player base there.

and I still cannot get over how seriously ugly GHIII/Aerosmith are. It hurts to look at.

Edit: Why the hell wouldn't they just do this as DLC? DLC = mad money. Rock Band has the right idea. No need to release another whole game, just keep adding tracks. Zero manufacturing cost.

Again, 80s Encore had an AWFUL track listing. They didn't even capture a lot of what was great about 80s music. Had they done so; it would've been a great release. Probably why it became a PS2 exclusive and the others didn't get to see it. Cheaper to sell on the PS2.

I understand that you have your opinion and are clearly a Rock Band fan; however, Guitar Hero clearly is not a bad game. Activision has already banked over one billion dollars on the series. That shows something.

Guitar Hero has mass appeal just like Rock Band does. I have older members of my family that even enjoy playing Guitar Hero. There are enough people out there that are going to buy the Aerosmith release. The average age of gamers right now is floating around 30. Even if its only a fraction that actually could enjoy Aerosmith music, it could be enough to sell a million copies.

Tracks for GH3 go for 200 points on their own; talking Xbox360 right now. That translates into about 3.20 per song. Take that times at least the 40 songs on the release; FAR exceeds a retail release price. Would not be a smart move financially for Activision-Blizzard.

You also stated a good point:

A: like music games

That enough is going to be a lot for some people; such as myself. I like the game series....I'll most likely buy it even though I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith.

Also, what do you consider to be so awful about GH3? I know it doesn't have an amazing track listing. I'm just curious.

Rock Band is the first release of the series. It makes PERFECT sense for them to release their material through DLC. However, Activision is now 3 (4 if you count the 80s release) into their series. Why switch everything over to simply DLC, now?

I highly doubt this Rock Band will be the only release; give MTV time to figure out their next step. I bet by the end of 2008 we'll hear of a new Rock Band release. I've already heard rumors floating around of a Rock Band: Classic release.

Which isn't any worse than Gh1, and so on. Again, the fact that Rock Band has just broke into the scene (and in a big way) and is packing their release with weekly DNC is what's catching massive appeal. I understand. Believe me, if I had 150 bucks I would drop it on Rock Band.

Activision is going to face one problem with each release. You can't make EVERYBODY happy. No track listing on Guitar Hero will appeal to everybody. Personally, I thought GH2 had a solid listing. GH3.....not so much. I still play it, though. The series has playability; on the same level as Rock Band.

The other instruments are yet to come, but we know Activision is working on it. The now biggest game producing company in the states is not going to let Harmonix and MTV run the show.

 did you really? I'm gonna preorder GTA IV, eventually. Probably won't touch R6V2 until I can at least rent it. Never been able to become a huge fan of Tom Clancy titles.

Community made (XNA) titles to begin being released this year through Xbox Live.

They are describing this idea further right now, and its sounds like a really great, fresh, idea.

Edit: Xbox will only look for copyright infringement and improper subject matter (such as porn, etc) and by the end of the year there will be thousands of titles on Xbox Live, created by the community, and for everybody to play.
