So long as we're complaining about school, here's an excerpt of a rant I wrote for a drama assignment concerning how much I love my classmates.
---
Here’s what comes to mind when I think of drama class.
Left brain: drama is an arts course where students work in groups and independently to utilize movement, sound, visuals, and other theatric components to convey a feeling, thought, or story.
Right brain: drama is a group based class I have third period where I’d by and large be better off teamed with a group of wild, rabid monkeys.
I am a predominantly right-brained person.
To be blunt: I am disgusted with 88% of my class mates.
I won’t name names, because I know that’d put you [referring to my teacher] in an awkward position, but this is something I’d really like to address with you.
While the first few weeks of this class were rough, and they always are, I must express my true admiration of the way you’re now running our class. The calendar [he gave us a calendar of the next few months where the expectations for every single day were defined] was brilliant. Honestly, without hyperbole, and without trying to butter you up. We need that. Because most of the students in this class, as you may or may not have guessed, do not care about drama whatsoever.
They take it as a bird course, assuming that they can slack off in it. They do nothing but complain and whine in a senior course that relies on creativity and constructive behaviour. They whine when they are expected to work. Let me say this again: they – 16 to 18 year old students – whine – immaturely, child-like, loudly, unintelligently – when they are expected to work – in grade 12, in an academic course, when all of them have taken drama before in lower grades. They constantly constantly try to weasel out of even the smallest bit of work. They sleep and leave during class. They don’t listen and will not break off their inane chatter even when yelled at. They outright refuse to do work, behaviour so disgustingly arrogant and contrary to the implicit expectations of the course I think they should leave the class, period. And one of my dear dear classmates seems to have a neurosis where sitting is involved. [one
enormously stupid fat student will not do anything unless he is sitting on a chair. He will steal chairs from other rooms to do this. He won't stand in front of the class, he won't sit on the carpeted floor, he has to be sitting on a chair at
all times.]
In any other class, I wouldn’t care. In any other class, their arrogance, immaturity, and laziness wouldn’t affect me. But in drama we’re all in the same boat, and if they don’t starting fixing these holes we’re all going to go down together. I salute and applaud you for how tight you’re running things now. This needs to be done. 88% of the class will ignore your words, ignore my words, ignore any words from anyone of any authority whatsoever, but thankfully they have learned to fear the deadline. A deadline a day will keep the lazy in line. You will, in all likeliness, be approached by a few or many parties complaining about this. They’ll say things are too hard and they’ll want slack. Don’t give in! We all know we are perfectly capable of rising up to, completing, and excelling under these conditions. They will want an “easier course” so that they can slack off, and for that purpose only!

Fucking stupid children.
