What's the best way to avoid skipping while ripping a CD? High speed or low speed? Any other tips?

yeah!! try closing any programs you may have running! if you've done that already, yeah, try lowering the speed at which you're burning!!!!

i recommend 8x being the max write speed for music cds

It really depends on the speed of your burner. If you have a 32x burner for example, feel free to burn at a slightly higher rate than 8x. Never at the max though. Thats just asking for trouble. I have an 8x burner and i'll only burn at 2x just to be safe. Its slow but its better than having a bunch of coasters hanging around.

Reduce the number of programs you have running. That will help reduce skipping in the tracks. You may also look for different programs to use for ripping. I tried using CDEX for a while but I got so many skips that I stopped using it. MusicMatch and Nero have always been fine for me, and Adobe Audition does alright too. I forget what the recommended speed for ripping is though. Perhaps Nikki can answer that one.

I don't know about speed for ripping, but personally I find that if a certain cd has a lot of skips and stuff when I rip it, I try my other drive. Then, if that fails, I go downstairs and try my dad's computer... then my mom's laptop. :lol:

Usually, I only have to try my other drive, though.
