i never heard it live before, and i still love that song

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

Live is frickin' awesome, well anything of them live is...
Come on now something's seizing
You know you lost your mind
You know we all need saving
She found you late last night
You feel the madness gaining
You know you just can't win
You know this, you know this, you know this
But I'm just so tired of waking up on the ground

I've listened to Not Afraid a few times and I've decided I don't like it. It's too... I don't know.. It's just so AVERAGE, and nondescript? Nothing special about it really.

My tastes have changed.

first off, I AM NOT GRAVITY-BASHING, but the lyrics are much better than the ones in gravity. and i think some of their better work on paper...

First lines of a couple of songs. (note, I could do this with any other lines as well, but choosing the first is the easiest to regulate) And, just to help, I'll take some of the more radio-friendly singles to compare...

Which is better?

Driving down the one way road
Some courage and the radio
We’re driving ‘til our eyes can’t see

Goodbye, the future's sold out
There's no use screaming
Who thought we'd ever get this far?

Are you there, and is it comfortable?
Did you want to escape, try to escape the population?
The pressure is deceiving,
For you particularly

Throw away the radio suitcase
That keeps you awake
Hide the telephone, the telephone, telephone, in case,
You realize that sometimes you're not okay
You level off, you level off, you level off,
And its not all right now

How many times have you been pushed around?
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
And how many times have your friends let you down?
Is anybody there?
Did anybody stare?
(admittedly not the best lyrics, but I figured I might as well include it)

I walked around my good intentions
And found that there were none
I blame my father for the wasted years
We hardly talked
I never thought I would forget this hate
Then a phone call made me realize I'm wrong

Well I let go of the world that was holding
A passenger that could not fly
In search of souls
Souls in search of something
Let it go
And let it slide

Now, that's even just comparing the first stanzas of some of the more popular singles. I fail to see how Not Afraid's lyrics are better. While the enjoyment of music is completely subjective, the quality of lyrics (and, for that matter, any writing), is fairly objective. The enjoyment of said lyrics or litterature has subjectivity, sure, but the quality is still mostly objective.

I think he ment compared to Gravity the lyrics are better. Which is still horribly wrong.
-Sarah

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Uhh. I'll explain this - try to follow along...

You said that Not Afraid's lyrics are "some of their better work on paper..." I was showing a plethora of lyrics from other radio-friendly songs that are much much better.

If (here comes the semantics) you meant that Gravity was "some of their better work on paper...", then you also said that Not Afraid was better than Gravity. Therefore, by showing lyrics that are better than Not Afraid, I'm also showing lyrics that are better than Gravity.

In the end, I think it pretty much goes like this:

Either...

Not Afraid < The First Four Albums

or

Gravity < Not Afraid < The First Four Albums

...depending on what you meant in your first post there.

Thank you.

a songs lyrics depend on the mood you're in when you here it, one mood it might suck, another mood it may be the perfect way to describe you

He ment that the lyrics to Not Afraid were better then the lyrics on Gravity.

lyrics are much better than the ones in gravity

which is also wrong. "we're just losers on this open road" or "tonight you're all I need" which has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the song.

Even "Somewhere out there" is better lyrically.

I don't know there is something about the lyric

:"We're just losers on the open road"

Reminds me of Beck's song *Loser* "I'm a loser baby so why don't you shoot me."

I like the studio version. I like the lyrics. I didn't think much of it live. I could go either way with this song. Even now I could go either way.

I look at it like this. When they did Junkie and Life at SS2- the lyrics were changed somewhat when recorded for SM. I think when done live, Raine tends to just sing what pops in his head. When they record he changes the words. I am wiling to bet that the other songs we heard will somehow be changed if recorded in the studio,

BTW I like the ending of Not Afraid. The chim sound. Reminds me of U2's song *I will follow*. Which is funny cause I was told they were trying to sound a bit old school U2.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Maybe he just has bad word choice. Or maybe, and this is the big CRAZY possibility, that could never in a million years happen, he likes Not Afraid more than some songs from the first four albums. Note he did not say, "This is their best work lyrically." He said, "This is some of their better work lyrically." He could have meant in the recent past! He could have meant he likes it more than ten of the old songs. He could have meant anything. Give him a chance, please.
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,

Jeebus, I responded to what he said. He said that Not Afraid has better lyrics than gravity. He then said, and I quote, "and i think some of their better work on paper...". Either he thinks Gravity is some of their better work, or Not Afraid is. Either way, he was talking about lyrics right before that, so I took it that he meant these were some of their better lyrics. I disagreed, and I responded by giving examples of better lyrics from arguably the most radio-friendly songs, in order to show my point of view on it.

But suddenly I'm the bad guy because he needs grammar lessons.
