I did what with the what now?

This isn't a question.

Nope.

It's a queston (that's short for quest of notification), for the religious and non-religious alike.

...yeah.

My theory of god is this:
Waaaaaaaaaaaay way way back when, when people first started coming about (however they did that), they needed a system of law. Some sort of method to keep the peace. So they created the illusion of a 'God', and the 'Ten Commandments'. But after people got used to that, they again needed something to keep the peace. so they created the illusion of a Hell. And over time, religion developed in different ways to what it is now.

I'll add my own thoughts. Why does there need to be a why. The reason for existence in Heaven is to glorify God just as it is here on earth. I have often wrestled with the what ifs and the whys and the whats of Christianity. I have faith in my religion and I believe in it. That has not stopped me asking though. I read way to many fantasy books. What if there were other gods that God did not know about. Say our universe was an enclosed room or something like that. There are a lot of questions I can't answer and many I don't have answers to. Thats where my faith comes in and believing.

It's not my place to say "I view reality this way, and in the scientific frame, there's plenty of proof that I'm right, so neener!", because there are people whose worldviews aren't even on the same plane as mine.

People are never going to agree about these things. All we can hope for is tolerance.

From my standpoint, science proves the existence of God, not disproves it. One just has to look at the amazing complexity of a single cell, the beauty of its design, its absolute perfection, to realize that God is behind it all. Its now very widely accepted in the Scientific community that the universe had a beginning, therefore the question is how. God is the only answer to that question.

Cells aren't perfect. The uncontrolled reproduction of cells is called "cancer." It happens quite a bit. Evolution can just as easily provide the complexity of a cell, and we can actually back that up with facts. Also, it's never been disputed that the universe had a beginning, I'm not sure where you wanted to go with that, and God is not the only answer to that question.

Finally, and you'll want to put this in a sig somewhere so you don't forget it, faith is, by the very fucking defintion of the word, something that cannot be proven either way. So stop trying.

Faith doesnt just pertain to God. It must take a lot of faith for you to believe that the universe came into being by itself, which completely contradicts the laws of thermodynamics, and that life came from non living materials which contradicts the principle of biogenesis. Sure there are theories that try to explain how and why these scientific laws were broken, but to believe them takes FAITH. Both creationism and the big bang theory take faith. Secondly backing up science with facts means very little to me. Maybe evolution was the vehicle God used to bring the world into existance. If you believe in God you have to believe that he created the physics and laws that make this universe work, therefore he could have very well created the universe through the big bang. The point is, He had his hand in it all, it didnt just happen by itself.

Finally... and you might want to put this in your sig so you dont forget it, without God your life and my life is meaningless. We are animals. Our sole purpose is to pass along DNA.

i've also wondered about Polythesim

it makes more sence, and for some reason almost every culture believed in the same idea at some point.

Not to mention at the starting of Judaism, which lead to Christianity, they agreed to only worship Yagweh (sp?), but they still believed in the existence of other gods. What if the Christian God is only one of many deities?

Jews believe in "The one true God." The same God christians believe in. All other Gods to them are false Gods. So no they arent polytheistic. A god can be anything that you worship whether it be an idol or tree or whatever. The Jews are told not to worship these "other gods" and only the true God.

Ok, I haven't read everything in this thread yet. So if I am repeating anything, sorry.

People in the world have different beliefs. I haven't studied much into religions, but I know that some believe in reincarnation and some believe that you just die. Some believe in a different God than others.
If there is a God wouldn't he be the God for everyone and there would be one heaven. But there are a few diverse religions in the world, and I'm sure in other countries, where Christianity is not the predominant religion they have different views.
So which one is true???
Ok I just rambled on there, not sure if I'm making sense to any one :freak:

In my opinion, religion is just a way for people to feel less scared and accept death, and to live life to the fullest. Which is great.
But has anyone ever proven that there is a heaven? Come back to talk about it?

And what if there is intelligent life like us, who understand the concept of death, on other planets somewhere out there? The chances are, there very well may be. Do they have a separate God that rules that planet? Where is their heaven?
And what about animals? Do they go to heaven...dogs, horses, dolphins???What about ants...do they have an afterlife. Where is the line drawn?

Hate to break it to you but that's the only reason why we're here. There isn't any other special reason. We're just animals who happen to have developed beyond the other species on Earth.

And, also if you do believe otherwise, than why do you need god for a life to be meaningful? I could easily say that with God life is meaningless and it would hold the same validity.

God gives you a place to go after death. God and heaven is our one true home. Our bodies are just tents that we are using while we visit Earth. When they die we return home to heaven and God. Death and then also God gives meaning to our lives. Explain to me using science, how all the parts of DNA somehow formed together. Scientists don't have an exact answer to that, they just say "somehow they combined to form DNA" what caused them to combine? If I lay a tree down and left it for millions of years it wouldn't turn into a boomerang. Someone has to shape it into the boomerang, same with DNA someone or something being God had to place all the parts together to create DNA.
