most of you have probably heard something like this but:
A radioshack manager goes on his lunch break, so he leaves an employee in charge. Three guys walk in and find a really old TV. They how much it is and the employee tells them it's 30 dollars...
so they each give him $10 for a total of thirty and walk out with the TV.
the manager comes back and says "what did you sell while i was gone"
the employee tells him "the old TV we had for $30"
the manager tells him it was only 25 dollars, and sends him back to repay them the other five.
The employee finds them, but he's greedy and decides to give them $1 each and pocket the other $2.
So if they each spent ten dollars and got one back, that's nine dollars. nine dollars times three people is $27... the employee keeps 2 dollars.
That's a total of 29. what happened to the other dollar??

It doesn't go anywhere....you're subtracting 3 from $30 and automatically, your brain tells you to add...but if you subtract the $2 he pocketed, it'll add up to $25, which is what it cost.

i dont think so. i'm pretty sure it's just that they dont really end up paying twenty nine dollars (as your brain wants to think).... they only end up paying 27. - (and the employee keeps two of those 27 dollars.)
the wording of the question makes you want to add on the two dollars.. which totals twenty nine, and makes you believe that their should be thirty in the system.
