everyone keeps saying they're making it more simple more simple more simple

i do believe one of the things they raved about in interviews when gravity came out was how bob rock CHALLENGED them. YES, Raine wrote lyrics that didnt make your brain shit a brick, but he described it as incredibly frustrating and a huge challenge, to write lyrics that connected more closely with his fans. that was close to the exact thing he said.

this band has always been about evolution and challenging themselves to do something different each album. everytime a new album comes out, you have a group of fans who started screaming "radio friendly" or "sellouts!" it happened with clumsy, it happened with happiness (bigtime), and it happened with SM.

as for writing songs in five minutes... i dont think he meant that they write a song and it's done in five minutes, i think he used that to try to exemplify the increase in musical ABILITY that theyve experience. bands churn out songs when they feel the most inspired, and talented bands spend less time agonizing in the studio. just look at the new Cold album... it took three years to make and it became one of the most overproduced pieces of garbage that's come out this year. length that it takes to write doesnt necessarily have to do with the quality of the song. Steven Tyler wrote Aerosmith's "Dream On" in about 15 minutes. i write songs and usually the ones i love the most are the ones that i write in about 10 minutes of pure inspiration, not the ones that take me days to craft. those i usually throw out.

im not a big gravity fan, but not because i don't respect the new ways in which theyre challenging themselves (it's because the music just isn't quite my style). everyone is afraid of the new and mysterious and right now that's exactly what OLP is to us long time fans. so...

instead of choosing "new olp or old olp" how about...

Are you excited or are you frightened about the new olp?

im excited to hear what it will be like

What do you mean by "New or Old OLP?"?

Are you asking which we prefer?

This has only been discussed about 999 times before, so I guess this isn't wrong.

Anyways, I don't think there's anyone on the board who doesn't prefer the old OLP, but a lot of us also like the "new" OLP. Just not as much as the old.

more then just the lyrics got changed though, the guitar got BORING, although that was alot because they used Jamie who's supposed to be a stunt musician, but the drums got simple as hell, the singing got generic, the production was basic, and there is no layers. That's a bit more then just getting a bit simpler.

PS didn't Robert Plant and led zep write Dream On? unless i'm thinking of a diffrent one

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

give it a rest dude, grow up

anyway, hopefully this full quote from a newer article will cull some people's woe's about the 'writing songs in five minutes' stuff....

Raine said "We write songs in like five minutes now, and IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'RE DONE, but the energy's there and this is going to be a good song if we work at it." .....

....."This whole thing is like closing the chapter on the old Our Lady Peace -- NOT THAT WE'RE ABANDONING THE SOUND, but it's changing a lot with the next record. "

I was just pointing out the fact that even though you claim to be the perfect poster who only brings up new things, we've been discussing this since Gravity was announced.

I think he's probably a part of the writing process. But really, they could probably do just as well or better without him.

like I've said before, we cannot judge the "new OLP" until the next album comes out. I'd like to believe Gravity was just a tranistion album and that it won't be the sound of OLP in the near future.

About Our Lady of Peace...I'm sure we've all experienced this:

Don't you hate it when you're looking for stuff on OLP and all this stuff about Catholic churches pops up (Our Lady of Peace)? It's annoying.

That was random. Back onto topic.
