I thought that the song was about Jer when i read the official title on Instagram...if the song is about Jeremy's departure it takes a huge meaning especially in the chorus!
I really enjoyed the song myself! It was a little poppier than usual but I think I forgave that because of the fact that the vocals didn't sound so lethargic this time around. It was nice and catchy and there was a lot of energy in it so I dug it.
Now to wait for the single to come out so I can listen to it again
The energy reminds me of the studio version of The Right Stuff. Will be interesting to see what the rest of the stuff sounds like, I wouldn't mind hearing their take on an entire pop album.
a lot of news lately.... sorry to see jeremy go, it really should even be called "OLP" anymore... but i digress
look forward to hearing this single.... but WOW so much LESS hype for this single than for curve or burn burn's single. sadly the band is falling more and more into obscurity.
can anyone/has anyone recorded the new single? can y'all post?

The only reason there is "so much less hype" is because they didn't promote it at all they just stated hours before that they are releasing the single, which I love.
well, it's definitely nowhere near their worst song... it does sound like a radio-geared song, but more like a early-2000s radio song, which OLP tends to keep churning out despite it being 2014
i enjoy it, but not as an "OLP" song, but i think we've all been saying that for about 12 years now, so not surprising. as others have said, raine's voice actually sounds invested in the song which is awesome. i'd rather a "heavyweight" type retrovocal, but this was okay.... need to relisten a few times.
I've listened to this a few times throughout the day.
Song has quite a few layers to it that I didn't catch the first few times. He sings falsetto on quite a bit of this track, but it's blended with the main vocals so its hard to pick up on. They used to boost the shit out of his falsetto vocal accompaniment, and I miss the shit out of that. Wish they'd bring the volume up so we could actually here it.
Its hard to get used to OLP sounding happy. Raine had so much angst in the old days. I can't blame an artist for maturing, but he's sounded kinda flat and low energy the last few times. I think the energy was half of what made the band, and I do think this song is very strong in that.
Song could be about jer moving. That's kinda my first vibe. It could be about his faith too though. Which is interesting... he was raised catholic, right?
I think its good stuff. Does anyone know if that's a drum machine or a drummer? I don't know that you can even tell anymore with electric kits...
I can definitely see how this is an evolution from curve after a couple of times. I wasn't expecting this direction though. Makes me really curious to hear the other songs theyve been working on.

This song is definitely no heavyweight. Heavyweight is a great song but this one is just a good summer song very catchy, im fine with it cause i do like the emotion in Raines voice but I hope the rest of the album does not sound like this and this is just a single made for the radio.

I was hoping, and very happy to hear that. I didn't want to see them rush the choice for a new permanent drummer, and I hope they get someone who will be pretty much dedicated to OLP as their main gig, rather than someone who is juggling working with multiple bands. Too bad I haven't had a chance to play drums in years!
I think it's live drums on here from Jason Boesel for the main beats, but some bits do sound programmed to me.

I'm glad Raine's not ready to stop. Sounds like he is still very passionate about the band and the music. He actually sounds quite pumped, which in turn makes me pumped!
If you believe in death, you're certain to die. If you believe in love, you're always alive.
Won't Turn Back is perfect for what I've been listening to lately. I've been sticking to some upbeat tunes, such as As Fast As You Can, just to keep me positive (I can be a downer.) While on first listen on the Edge, I was pretty damn uncertain with how it started off, and didn't really start feeling it until during and after the bridge. But that was from the live stream on my phone on a shit connection, so it was quite boring or flat. Now that I got a pretty damn good copy, been listening to it all day, the layers and sound that are going on as it opens up, damn, that's fun as hell.
I really love the bridge. Snuck in a bit of falsetto even. It's got some sounds we've never heard in a OLP song, and at first I wasn't sure if I liked the atmosphere of it. However it fits the lyrics, the dream-like feel of remembering being kids, remembering when they wanted to be something, remembering when they were something, when they broke thu while being, basically, kids. That's how I interpreted, anyway. About themselves, or Raine's self, and being a band. Which leads me to the chorus.
I can't help but feel that the chorus is somewhat related to the state of the band after Jer told them about his departure, but then again I don't know when they first demoed this song. In the interview Raine said Jer talked to them about it a month and a half ago. But he also mentioned how they weren't sure if they should continue with OLP with Jer's leaving, but decided they still had a lot to say together. They've come this far, they ain't turning back just yet. And that fit's the chorus, and the song, almost perfectly.
The "These horses will bring us to start" lyric is sort of odd. I guess maybe it means the horses bring "us" to start, as in the start of a race at a track and they got a lot more to accomplish, ie: finishing the race. No turning back now, you already started. But, I don't fucking really know, so whatever.
Anyway, enough of the shrink talk and over analysis. It's crazy catchy, I already got the words memorized, and been singin' along to it blasting in my car. It's different than we're used to when it comes to OLP. The energy is really what sold it for me. It's great to hear Raine belting his heart out in it.
It hit me right where it needed to hit me. I do, however, hope that the rest of their new songs aren't in the completely same vein as Won't Turn Back. My OLP still needs some rock and roll, dammit.
But we'll see when that happens. Raine made it seem like Elizondo was pretty busy with Eminem in Detroit currently.

who was it that mentioned that they'd heard mike turner say raine contacted him to appear in the tour? was this just for the canceled tour, or the upcoming 2014 summer shows? is it a legit source? i just find this insane to believe.... i never thought raine would ever talk to the man again. it's nice to see he's maybe losing his grudge a bit on the issue.
