Clip a fingernail, and put it under a microscope at school and look at the back of your nail.

i've done that with a seemingly clean nail. it's absolutely horrific.

I don't bite my nails. I fear one coming off.

yeah, and to add to that...it's not only the fact that nails are dirty and biting them wrecks both the nails and the teeth, but also you just get this tingly creepy feeling when biting your nails. i think it's because you know you're biting a part of yourself off even if you can't feel it.

just think fingernails on a blackboard--not the sound, but the sensation in the fingers. it's a ghastly feeling like that.

I never had a problem with the sound of fingernails on chalkboard, it was more the idea that you could hurt your finger doing that that bothered me.

I get the same feeling on ceramic tile floors. I bite my nails when they're bent but won't break off. When you consider all the disgsting things you probably do on a daily basis, It's no biggy.

I never do anything disgusting.

That's exaaaaaaactly why I can't deal with it. It's the feeling, but not so much the "part of yourself" thing... that doesn't bother me. I pick at scabs all the time. It's just how it feels sends chills down my spine. Plus after you do it, your nail is SO rough and uneven and there's parts that end up being paper thin layers and *shudders* ughhh. My nails have to be perfectly smooth or I freak out when they rub against anything cos the feeling of them catching is horrid.
