DG's Art | Graphic Design | Video Thread

Postby DG » 3/30/2010, 10:37 pm

I do all kinds of creative work - drawing, music, and video production. I figured I'd post some things I do. First off is something inspired by this place.

Based on the CM Ape/Monkey
Image

Needs a bit of work, like the butterflies, and a better scan and I'll paint it in photoshop and post another.

Cool. Question: Is the girl who first drew Twitch (this is his name, right?) still bouncing around here?

Oskar Twitch.

I can't remember in CM lore who drew the original monkey.

The various monkey's we've all liked over the years were drawn by Justin Woo, out of Montreal. You remember him as Jay84. He also did the caricature shirt of the band on the Gravity tour. The current monkey was made from the last image I got from Jay, Photo Shopped by me onto the album cover.

i didn't even know the monkey had a name. upon further investigation, it was andrea (ahree) who made it, though i know jay's been doing the last few drawings.

that looks really good, dylan. i don't really get the butterflies, but still. you should put up the finished product once it's done

I'm guessing the butterflies are to do with Monkey Brains...wasn't it DG that started making a Monkey Brains video?

Nice job Dylan. Interesting to find out that the monkey has a name.

Thanks for compliments. And Yes, the butterflies are basically inspired by Monkey Brains. This is actually a cropped version of the whole image.

I also hope to complete the Music Video in the near future.

Ah yes! Andrea was her name. Does she still visit this place?

So, I did art for a friend of mine for her band, The Lotus Goodnight. I initially wasn't involved until I decided to take a crack at it. This is the evolution of the Album cover.

A Very Rough Draft I used to garner interest.

After taking in a few ideas. Still very rough.

After deciding on a idea.

Cover Seemed unbalanced. Added final touches.

AND THEN...

They chose this one... I made it. In 5 minutes, to demonstrate Photoshop for them... I don't like it.
Image

As much as it doesn't reflect my artistic vision, it's still cool to have my work and name on a CD.

You can see some other demo-covers I offered them. Again, very rough. You'll also see the inside pamphlets I made, I didn't take the pictures, however.

Yeah, I love this photo also. I was so excited to see he posted a few that didn't make flickr.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

Also i love it....but it will be amazing if at the place of "number 8" there will be the name of the album...but this is not DG's fault..
