Make Your Own "Healthy in Paranoid Times"

Post by MindsOnLoan »

If we've learned anything in the past four years, it's that OLP and a large portion of the fans aren't exactly pleased with the result of Healthy in Paranoid Times. So basically, I made this thread just from lists and discussion on what your tracklisting for HIPT would be. You can put it in the order you choose, or you can just list the songs. Here are the songs you can choose from:

Angels/Losing/Sleep
Will the Future Blame Us (Don't Ask Why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgD2CpXl8c)
Picture
Where Are You (The Best Day of Your Life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBlLJMUQV10 OR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTSDIEoy_6o)
Wipe That Smile Off Your Face
Love and Trust
Boy
Apology
The World on a String
Don't Stop
Walking in Circles
Al Genina (Leave the Light On)
Kiss on the Mouth
Better Than Here
Not Afraid ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFwU7QnogEs OR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCtRFxcc_lc)
Vampires ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgQIjLj6ORU / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFeHrv85Dnc)
No Warning ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frvDm6Kpkf8 )
Talk Is Cheap ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lRJL5_k7gA )
(or earlier versions of songs listed above, like an earlier version of Not Afraid, Don't Ask Why in favor of Will the Future Blame Us, or The Best Day of Your Life instead of Where Are You).

There are many songs we still don't know, but I left out Save Yourself, Enemy, End of the World, Weight of the Lord, and Hit the Wall since we haven't heard demos or live performances of these (although we got a drum performance sample of Hit the Wall from Jer).

-A/L/S
-Vampires
-Al Genina
[insert SM part 2]

It would have been cool, they could have had audio inserts from various past US politicians and related it to human paranoia in their music. Naturally Raine's falsetto would be back in full force, and they would let Steve go crazy on the guitar like they should have for HIPT in the first place!

Edit:

and oh ya:

This is easy!

Healthy in Paranoid Times Times
disc 1.
01. Angels/Losing/Sleep
02. Will the Future Blame Us?
03. Picture
04. Where Are You?
05. Wipe That Smile Off Your Face
06. Love and Trust
07. Boy
08. Apology
09. Vampires
10. Don't Stop
11. Walking in Circles
12. Al Genina (Leave the Light On)
13. Kiss on the Mouth
14. The World on a String
15. Not Afraid

disc 2 (demos and early arrangements).
01. Best Day (Where Are You?)
02. Boy
03. Not Afraid
04. No Warning
05. Don't Ask Why (Will the Future Blame Us)
06. Better than Here
07. Talk Is Cheap
08. Apology
09. Walking in Circles
10. Wipe That Smile Off Your Face
11. Hit the Wall
12. Save Yourself
13. Weight of the Lord
14. Enemy
15. End of the World

Those titles sound like disc 2 might as well be OLP's own "The Downward Spiral."

Am I doing it wrong? I like Healthy in Paranoid Times. :P

Oh whoops, reread your post and we can't include the songs we haven't heard... well I'd want to hear more songs from this period haha. I guess cut those from disc 2.

Well, Josh, I'm definitely with you about that, but I kinda meant keeping with the whole 12 song thing lol.

I say if OLP ever decides to make the good move of releasing previously unreleased songs, Healthy should get a big EP of it's own, since we know a lot more songs came from those sessions.

I don't get what's not to understand: A big complaint about Healthy was the songs that made the album. So I was wondering how CMers would change the tracklisting to what they think it should have been.

I've always loved Not Afraid.

I'm not sure which version I have but it's the one that starts with "driving down the one way road, some courage and the radio. Tonight the road is all we need." That song should have definitely have been on there!

"It's like the sky hits the ground." = butterflies.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

Which is probably why it asks how would you change it from WHAT IT IS.

Truly is... I wouldn't keep it the same, but I like it.

I would rather have another HIPT than Burn Burn, to be honest. It's because of Raine's voice, he has the crazy edge in it still on HIPT.

I think Sarah was trying to point out that because the album is the songs that made the album, what you previously said is kinda like saying "a big complaint about the album was the album," when what you meant was a big complaint about the album was they had other songs in the same period or other versions of the songs that maybe would have made a better album for some listeners.

Oh okay, I get what you're saying. That's exactly what I meant.

Someone uploaded the Healthy DVD on YouTube. Wow, that version of Don't Ask Why and the early version of Boy are ridiculously better than the album versions.

Also in the following video, does anyone know what's being played at 1:49 or 3:00?

Haha, I'd forgotten all about that documentary. I believe I have that on the Hub. That had to be the most miserable recording experience ever.
