Hey All,

Just wanted to give you a glimpse of some of my band, hazeldean's, music. just go here: http://www.thesoundradio.com/artist/hazeldean for three songs from our upcoming album.

BTW, for anyone in the Edmonton area, we have a show coming up on Thursday June 30th at Sports World (137Ave, 104St). go to http://www.supernova.com/concerts/upcoming.php?showID=675 for more info.

Anyway, if you get a minute, give my songs a listen and let me know what you think.

hmm...

really well done technically.
I don't know about the whole "Hazeldean's vision is to continually expand past contemporary musical borders and develop a sound that is both unique and timeless" part,
They're a step above radio-rock but i wouldn't say the songs are overly creative. Either way they sound good and most of the lyrics are solid.
Ultimately it's a great start at the least, i can see you guys getting somewhere with this.

and finally, please please please do something about the "three ways from sunday" part in nenia. it's probably just a pet peeve, but it all but ruined the song for me. You have a lot of intellingent lyrics, and then a cliché that doesn't even make sense.

Thanks for the feed back
-as for that sentence you quoted, I would agree that it sounds pretty pretentious, but for the record it was a different member of the band who wrote it - I've been meaning to write a new bio, but I haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for reminding me though
-as for the "three ways from sunday" lyric, I kind of intended it to be a cliched statement - a lot of the lyrics in that song are references to cliches, eg. "to the victor go the spoils" - I think that's just sort of the tone that I was going for in the lyrics, but if you say you didn't like it then I'm sure it's worth some thought, so I will think about it.

not too bad; definitely a great musical start!
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

Well, I clicked on your link expecting to hear another crappy wannabe band. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the music. Good stuff. If you were in the area, I'd check you out. Great vocals and very professional sound.

Pretty good.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

yup, hazeldean's a place - it's actually the name of the community that we practise in, that's where we got the idea. But if there can be a band called Chicago, and Idlewild, and isn't there a band called America? . . . I'm sure there are others.

Thanks everyone for listening!

Joel, what are you screaming in An End during the chorus? I remember when you were singing "it's way out, it's way out" or something sometimes.

If anyone wants to give those songs a second listen, I've put up new mixes of 'nenia' and 'sex in unusual places' that I just received. Let me know what you think.

An End reminded me a lot of Matthew Good's "Weapon"

The songs were good. Kind of long for a poppier sound but that's okay. Well done and good luck!
