Everyone that's been saying he should have stuck with Jay, come on!! Of course the songs were different, and very good as well, I don't see what's so wrong with Fair Ground. The lyrics probably would have been better if Pete had help writing with Harry Hess, since they're a team and it WAS just a solo record. The songs are nothing different or special, but this project is what Turner chose to be in, you should be happy about that.

They're done recording the record now, just shopping around for a label, and there's supposed to be a new song, to replace Scars/Trouble With Pets. I'm still confused as to who is the lead guitarist. Pete is one of the greatest underrated guitarists in Canada, but if he's doing lead vocals, at least let Mike play lead guitar.

And since they are looking for a replacement drummer for Darren(who also played in that project with Jay/Mike) Don't exactly know what will happen in the near future. They should get Darren Smith or Chreighton Doane to fill in for the meantime.

I don't even think it was a matter of the lyrics being bland. The music was bland and uninteresting as well. Even as a four-piece unit, the songs on the EP had no exciting builds, energy, power or presence to them. They were just floating along with nothing really even catchy to them. The stuff with Jay and co. were very well done and had a sound that most of us here really enjoy. I hope that Fair Ground is able to do more with a full length album than what was on the EP.

I would enjoy a full length album with Turner and McGroarty. I doubt I will listen to the Fair Ground album more than one time when it comes out.

I think Matt's criticism says it all.

Their full-length album is going to be the songs from Pete's solo re-recorded, so it's not going to really change, just with an extra song.

well i bought pete's solo record and i also have heard 5 of them re-done and all of them live with fairground and i must say they are much better songs with fairground...and i love both projects emtee has had since he left olp (jay and fairground)

in talking to mike a the fairground show in kitchener, he said he was basically just hired to play on the stuff for jay and could not see them getting on a bus and touring together...they would never survive

mike and pete have been best friends since before olp, and i think this project is excellent...most of the songs are excellent IMO and they are phenomenal live

Body: Hey all, check out our page (myspace/fairground) for an acoustic version of one of the other songs on our record 'Life Goes On'. Pete and I were just hanging out rehearsing acoustically and thought it sonded pretty cool so we recorded it. If we keep this up we won't need to find a drummer! We're still looking for names for the drummers spot, email me or the band page with any recommendations. Feel free to share this one around, it's a one off just for fun!

Namaste,

Mike

Life Goes On is great song!!

If this link works, this is Harem Scarem, they are not anything like Fair Ground. HS is melodic hard rock....so here is a sample

Not a fan of the acoustic one either.

I must admit I like the new OLP better than the stuff I've heard from Fair Ground.

I love the last two paragraphs of his post, as I sit here and sip my coffee...

'The phone rings again. At this point, I'm starting to think about leaving it off of the hook. It's Pete. "Hey, what are you doing?", he asked in a familiar tone. I thought 'think fast Mike...you know what happens if you don't have something on the go'. "Uhh... drinking coffee", I brilliantly shot back, immediately thinking 'oh, that's clever of you Mike. Great job all-star.'

Pete could sense some trepidation. "No deadlines, just fun this time -- promise", he said. People had been liking Upside Down's different sound and Pete wanted to readdress some of the other songs with me playing some more guitar. In fact, I wasn't busy -- drinking coffee is more of a hobby of mine than an arduous task-- so I jumped right in. Next thing I knew we had four tracks together that we were really happy with and it occurred to us that we might play this stuff live. So here we arewe are Fair Ground. We almost went with Fine Grind, but the coffee thing was getting weak."
