Someone in my hall has a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum, comes with this drive thingy. From the looks of it, most standard inputs are accepted. Looking at somewhere 160 american, 220 canadian. I'm pretty sure my calculations are wrong, maybe thats why I'm going to fail my math class.

good recording equipment is very expensive. if i were you i'd look in the yellow pages for a music shop that rents stuff out. you can usually rent decent equipment for about $50-$100 for a weekend.

how high quality do you want to go?
and what are you gonna use exactly..
like a regular PC mic + proper software + an amp or whatever will work too

or that soundcard as well (that thing is sweet) heh..

but for simple stuff just to start.. just go with a regular pc mic and just find some good software to put it all together on some warez chan

I actually have no idea what kind of equiptment I want. I just know that I want to record some guitar and vocals.

As for quality, I have no idea there either. I'd rather not have something shitty and scratchy, but I'd like to avoid paying $500 if possible.

Eventually I'll go to a music store or two...

Stuff you need if you're serious:

Mic, a decent line in, a mixer and a software.

If you want studio mic or condenser mic, you will need a phantom power mixer, he has a Behringer Mixer and it cost $80 USD.

For studio Mics I would recommend the CAD M-37, they go for around $119 USD online.

As for software, CoolEdit pro can cost you up to $300. That's the one he recommended.

I forgot to ask him about line-in, obviously you can use your computer sound card, but I'm pretty sure there's something that gives you better quality.
