New Favourite Bands

Postby Shanae » 1/15/2011, 9:02 pm

We all go through little stages where you can't listen to some brand new band (or as per usual in my case, some random band I just decided to start listening to). I'm currently hooked on Kings of Leon and I bought Wolfgang Amadeus by Phoenix based off of the two songs I barely knew and fell in love with them.

What about the rest of ya.

my brother's a big fan of phoenix too. they have some good stuff.

i've been listening to some muse recently. i listened to their album "showbiz" in its entirety, and it kind of blew me away. also, i know this doesn't count as a band, but i've been getting into LIGHTS recently too. her music is really catchy.

I haven't gotten into anything new in the past month or two, but since the summer I've started listening to: Mother Mother, Vampire Weekend, J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Jeff Buckley, The New Pornographers, Kid Cudi more than I was, The Raconteurs, Rick Ross' new album Teflon Don, and I'm starting to dig some Wale.

I need to check out Phoenix though, my brother keeps telling me how good they are.

I can't STAND Phoenix, I wish the radio would stop playing them every five minutes. Also, pretty sick of Mumford and Sons because they are overplayed as well.

I'm into Deluka and Company of Thieves right now. Both are awesome. Metric as well, but I'm not as into them at the moment as the other two.

Cut Copy, James Blake, Wild Nothing, No Age and Beach House.

Also, don't hate on Phoenix just because they are overplayed on the radio. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix has been out for nearly two years now. They deserve the attention they are finally getting.

Agreed. The two songs I've heard were okay at first, but I'm pretty tired of them now. I'm making no judgement about the rest of their music which I haven't heard... eventually I may download the album. I do like Little Lion Man though.

I knew nothing about Phoenix, I just knew a song or two from Wolfgang Amadeus from the alternative channel 47 on our satellite radio. I just decided to randomly buy their album, and I`m glad I did.

Also, wherever you guys are, radio must be way different. Then again, we have only a shitty pop station and an AC DC heavy rock station.

I also love LIGHTS. I used to be a lot more into her and have not listened in a while but... I definitely have a girl crush on her. She is very beautiful.

I don't really care how long it's been out - they are getting attention but it's too much attention. I can't stand to listen to a song 10 times in one day, every day, over and over again, it gets pretty boring. The length of time the album has been out has nothing to do with its greatness. Silversun Pickups are awesome, their music has been out for a few years now, and they don't get nearly the play Phoenix does and I think Silversun Pickups are better.

I think your projecting your hate of poor radio programming on a band that has no control over it.

I don't like them because hearing it once or twice was good, but I don't need to hear it all the time. It's not an album I'm interested because the music I've heard so far has gotten old. It's not good music to me, and overplaying it has made it worse. I don't really care whether you think I'm projecting, this is my opinion.

Sweet Thing.

I didn't know they were that band that sings... that song... that's always on the radio, but I saw them open for DWW and they were the right amount of indie, the right amount of mainstream, and dressed the correct amount of hipster.

Plus, the guitarist looks like the fifth Followill relative, so you know it's gotta be decent.
