Did punk rock get it right?

I miss cd's

Postby ivewaited » 3/29/2009, 10:45 am

i remember going into the cd store every friday and buying a crap ton of cd's. i'd go home and listen to the songs i specifically bought them for and think the whole rest of the cd sucked, usually...

remember cd players too? so you were forced to walk around with this cd and not be able to change it all the time and would have to listen to the cd and a part of you would because you didn't want to waste your hard earned money.. a few months pass by and it became your favorite cd and still is.

now you can just buy whatever song you want for cheap, have it on your ipod, shuffle fast to another band. be conveniently lazy.

does anyone else miss the old days?
:(
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Sometimes. Though, the art of creating an album as a total themed work of songs has been lost on most mainstream bands. Now you have record company singles intermingled with random other songs. It's fun when the whole album ties in together and/or tells a story.

Another thing I'm going to miss when downloads are the only way to get songs is the artwork that comes with the CD. Can you imagine getting Spiritual Machines with none of Oli's work in it?

This thread makes me oh so very sad.

I don't care if it's out-of-date to buy cds, I still do it, and will continue to do so until it's no longer possible.

Hopefully some time will pass and the allure of mp3s will wear off, or at LEAST lossless will become the standard way to release digital music. I refuse to pay money for lossy formats.

I feel like this about video games.
When I was growing up I always got together with three of my friends (cause 4 controllers max) to play video games all weekend. Renting games and greasy pizza and always playing golden eye. it was the bomb. Playing online ain't the same.

Split screen Goldeneye was an all around epic time. I'll cherish those days.

Also the days where 3 of my cousins and myself would stay up alllll night on the weekend. At our grandpa's house. Playing Super Tecmo Bowl. I miss that shit.

Now. The only game I can seem to get people in the same room for is Rockband. That's about it. Otherwise it's all online.

How lame. Suddenly I don't feel bad for not keeping up with video games anymore.

Split screen Goldeneye really was freaking great.

Yeah thats pretty much the only reason I think Rock Band is so popular. Getting together with other people and having a laugh. Other wise its a pretty boring game.

Exactly. I use emulators too. Even though theres some modified system out there (for a decent price too) that can play both SNES and NES games. Kinda pimpin'.

I still haven't beat the original Zelda. haha! Not sure if I ever will.

i wish the nes had a save feature for ALL games that didn't send you 10 levels back or some shit, then i would have beaten zelda.

Sucks that if you get ahold of the whistles you can beat Mario 3 in roughly 15 minutes.

Mario 3 is awesome. So is Doki Doki Panic... That's the original title for Mario 2 right?

cds are not dead yet... they'll survive....they'll survive!

I still buy cds. I don't see myself buying my music on internet all the time, what if my pc dies? what if my ipod dies? then all the music that I've paid for would die too...or not if I do backups everynow and then but I don't feel like it...lol

I don't pay for music unless i'm getting a hard copy. To hell with iTunes.
That said, I never bought cds that much to begin with. The whole being-a-poor-teenager thing means I'll only shell out cash for my favourites.

Same goes for me, Annie. Plus, another reason I hate iTunes is the fact that they don't have full discographies. So if I was even interested in buying music online, I wouldn't be able to get albums like Spiritual Machines.
