Canadian Idol revisited Matt Good this time

Postby crustine » 6/30/2008, 8:07 pm

So tonight we heard Apparitions by Matt Good followed by NWL The Grace. Although no one could match Matt live acoustic, he was pretty good. The Grace had some nice parts.

I know there has been a tremendous amount of discussion around the Idol franchise, BUT I believe that this season of Canadian Idol might just surprise a few people. There has been much said about the Idol packaging of people to sell them as opposed to any talent, but this season is mostly comprised of seasoned musicians. As a result i believe that this group is much less relenting to the pressures to develop an Idol brand.

Most of the musicians play instruments when performing and have their own style. There is a fair number of seriously cool musicians on the show and if you were ever feeling inclined to watch, this would be the time to do it, by the time that Canadian teenagers have whittled it down to a top 10 I am sure the funky factor will be voted out in favor for more mass appeal. I believe that Annabelle will win it because she has the whole package and comes across as a seasoned professional. It is unfortunate that her brand is more in line with Anne Murray. She is beautiful and a fierce athlete and a strict Mennonite to boot??? Only in Canada.

I can't find Apparitions online, but I'm listening to The Grace and I'm not very impressed. There are parts that need to be really poweful and Dallas Green does that well and Todd Kerns did that even better when I saw him, but this guy just didn't at all.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I just watched Apparitions. It was good, but I think I'm just too used to Matt doing it live so it sounded kind of odd to me.
